Half carat beauties! Anyone with Vatch Royal Crown?

Hi everyone!!
Im fairly new here and looking to have my engagement ring reset into a replica of the vatche royal crown or trellis/xprong setting.
I love the royal crown but i'm worried the 6 prongs will hide the diamond as it is only .5 carat, however, I am worried about security with the trellis as it is only 4 prongs.
Any half carat beauties out there with some advice? Did you go 4 or 6 prongs?
Thanks all!!!

I have a 0.51 ct rd and it is set in a 4 prong 3-stone with baguette sides. No problems at all!

Ooooh do you have any photos? I would love to see :-)

I'm a 4-prong fan for diamonds under 1 carat. I really think too many prongs obscures smaller diamonds. I do not think that 4 prongs make a round diamond look square. It is all about personal taste, though.

ETA: I should add that I wore a 1/2 carat in a 4 prong setting for more than 15 years with no issues, perfectly secure.

Sure! 0.51ct center, size 5.25 ring

Oh what a beautiful ring!
I definitely love how the 4 prongs open up the diamond and the light really gets to it from all angles!
Have you ever had any problems with security? I have heard if you lose 1 of the 4 prongs the diamond can fall straight out, which bothers me as it is my grandmothers diamond :-)

Your ring is beautiful. Biased here as I guess I also have this vatch royal crown six prong, even though at the time of the setting switch-out, I just pointed to it and said, "That one, that trellis thing but six prong." and it matches your vatch royal. Congrats to you!

Here's mine, if I may add it; just received it on 11/22.

When a setting has 4 prongs, they are usually thicker than the prongs of a 6 prong head. So I don't think it is true that you are likely to lose a diamond with 4 prongs. I did have 4 prongs on my original 1 ct. diamond and a prong did get pulled loose one time, but the other three prongs held the stone until I looked down and noticed it. In any event, insure the ring even though I know you can't replace the sentimental value. Or go with a 6 prong setting that has small prongs.

Thanks for the reply... I would love to see a photo if you have one!
Glad to hear you never had any problems with 4 prongs :-) Makes me feel better!

Congratulations :-)
How beautiful! What carat size is that? It looks huge :-) and you can definitely see the diamond through the prongs!

It seems you have got your own answer, and I still wanna say that I do agree with the opinion it is about the personal tastes, for safety on the 4 or 6 prongs are determined by the way they are made, brilliance of a diamond is related with the number of its facets and the mosaic settings as far as I am concerned, you can take the two elements into consideration and consult a local jewelry maker, that might be of some help. :)

Thanks all!
I think ill go to my jeweller see if they can make 4 sturdy prongs, I just love how it opens up the diamond!
hybridhera - I would love to see more shots of your ring though... bigger if you have them :-) It is so beautiful :-)

If you're bored, you can flip through 62 pages of this thread, there are lots of examples of what you're trying to compare:

I personally like 6 prongs better on round stones. But I think it's all just a matter of preference and I really don't think you have to worry about safety with 4 prongs as long as you aren't too hard on your ring.
