Half carat OEC pendant project

Maybe. I don’t have a plan for it and I am trying not to hoard things I don’t have a specific plan for. But I’m not sure. It’s a perfect cut and I don’t own any other stones with faint brown tint. I don’t think I will be able to buy a larger stone for a long time, though, so I may explore whether there is a less expensive setting option just so I can enjoy her and go from there. I e been fantasizing about finding an antique yg pendant with a 5mm stone I could replace with this one…

Well we can put folks on the hunt and maybe come up with something!

That would be fun! I’m looking for pendants with inexpensive colored gems the right size, prong set so it’s easy to pop out the stone and pop in the diamond. Yellow gold, Victorian or Nouveau, animals or botanical vibes a plus. I’ll post things I like here.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wonder what a jeweler in the U.S. would price it at, out of curiosity. But also think, that if you want something with "presence" 9mm on a fuller figure may not be enough. Off topic, but kind of a bummer, it seems Recycled Gems has no stock at all.

I may have messaged Recycled Gems a few days back about a stone they had, and they're on vacation until mid-May. That's why all their inventory disappeared.

Just say the edit addition… I don’t think a basic solitaire will be the way to go, it would need added metal elements or maybe cluster colored gems. I dunno, pondering. I’ve even toyed with using my 8mm center in my three stone for a pendant!

So glad @lala646 discovered the secret about recycled gems! I was also sad to see them gone.

Like this is a dream kind of pendant for me. Weird. Gold, antique. Just replace the sapphire with a diamond.

Gargoyles, snakes, dragons, griffins…

Good to know. They are a great source.

I'll keep any eye out. So many of the things I see like that are stick pins, which can easily be converted, it's just whether they would be large enough to give you the presence that you need. Are you willing to buy from the U.S.?

Yes I can buy from the US but only Etsy and eBay. Prefer eBay bc they make international returns very easy.

I think a stick pink conversion or brioche conversion might give more of the desired size. And the options are more interesting!

Could something like this (as an example) be converted and then the stone
replaced? I guess the back pin would be removed and a bale added.

Yes I have been toying with something like that. I think about 20mm is the max width I would like so often these styles are larger. But I think there are options!

Some mock ups I’ve toyed with.

I was looking at the same type of things, but trying to focus on the ones that were on the larger size. I converted a few stick pins but they tend to be fairly small so I was thinking an actual pin/broach would give a bit more size. The second photo looks like it would be the largest.

Yes the first is about 12mm, so I think a bit small. The second is closer to 30mm so I think a little large. The proportions of metal the gem are off. The griffin is about 15mm too so a bit small. I want the perfect balance between metal and stone while also having the presence I want.

Actually this one is about 24mm so close. I still think a teensy bit smaller would be better… maybe 20mm

I like this one, but you would need to ask about the size of the stone. Could very well be too small.

Here’s what I would do…

Your 5 stone is one of my top three rings on PS. I would reach out to DK and ask him to design something to complement your ring, not matchy matchy… but to make it feel like part of a suite. See what his thoughts are for giving it some size, perhaps a bezel floating with a design around it to quietly echo the setting on your ring.

If this is a daily forever piece like your 5 stone, I say keep it simple, beautiful… so you can wear it with sweats and a beautiful dress.

This is lovely! I’m betting the stone is 4mm but I will use my little trick of comparing measurements on the screen against the known measurement of the metal coin lol thank goodness for math!

Are you opposed to something with seed pearls? I have no idea of the size of the stone. Just showing for the pearls. I know this is larger than you want.

I saw that and it’s lovely! I do like seed pearls but I suspect the gem is closer to 6mm (I emailed to ask) and I would prefer something with a rounder outline not sharp angles.

I love this! I am looking at it more as a fun project than a forever piece. Ideally want to bring it in under $500. I suspect what you are describing would cost at least $1k USD and I’m not ready to invest that yet. When I find my larger pendant stone I will absolutely be going custom for that!!

Oh! Ok, I love a fun project… I’m off to help you shop

I’m glad you like the suite idea!

I like this idea as well, but yes, with the current cost of gold, I would think it would be at least $1000.

When I look for pieces for you, I'm trying to keep the cost to no more than $300ish USD figuring you'll have to pay a jeweler something for a conversion. Is that the right ball park with the conversion?

Yeah I think that is about right! I would pay a little more for the right piece though. My ideal is gold with a bit of an animal or mythical or gothic kind of vibe. Here is another piece I adore but it has a 3.5mm ruby that cannot be replaced without ruining it.
