Hi Everyone!

I am thinking of adding a halo to my diamond, my center stone is about a .33 I believe and I am not sure if the halo will make it look smaller then it already is or if it will make it appear larger. Ive been looking around for pics and cant find any. Does anyone have some pics or ideas that might help me??

Thank you!

If you use a very small size melee and have it prong set in the halo, I think it would work for you. Sometimes having a small stone bezel set can emphasis the size and make it appear smaller. With the prong set halo, the lack of demarcation increases the perceived size. I would look into if I were you. I think you could achieve the look you are wanting

There was a thread about this exact same thing not long ago. Try a search and see what comes up, there were lots of replies.

Hi dreamer - yep i saw that everyone thinks I shoudl for it, and I agree, but all the pictures i can find are with large center stones, im looking for any pics that people might have with a smaller center stone so I can get a better idea of what it would look like. I want to make sure i find a picture that i love to bring into my jewelers so they can custom make it for me :) Thanks!

ooo...and im actually looking for a square one too, thanks!

Oh, ok!

You may want to post a thread in Show Me the Ring and title it something like "Show me your halos with small center diamonds!" You may get more traffic and help that way.

Well said I agree you want minimal metal, 4 prong set (not shared prongs) in v cut or mushroom pave. I'd say probably 0.5 - 0.7 pointers would be perfect. Larger melee it looks more like a cluster ring with such a small centre, but smaller melee doesn't have as big flash, looks cheaper and won't add as much size.

0.33 carat = ~4.5mm
0.5 pointers = 1mm
0.7 pointers = 1.1mm
1 pointers = 1.3mm

So [1]4.5[1] I think would look fine. 4.5:2 Ratio
But [1.3]4.5[1.3] would be 4.5:2.6 starting to look clusterish.

Go and see 1 carat rings halo'ed rings and melee size and bring your diamond beside the melee this will be the best way to tell.
Often times sales staff only know total carat weght of a setting so divide carat weight by number of diamonds to get point size. Point size*100 = carat weight.
