Kaypso - I did not have to pay tax as the ring is being sent elsewhere. I will have to pay tax and duty once it arrives here in Japan. Being a fairly smart shopper, I researched this before buying the ring and found that if I have HW state that this ring is for my personal use then the duty would be calculated at 60% of the value of the ring. This will mean that I will only end up paying around 5.5-6%! Much cheaper then NY state tax or a flight to the U.S. to get it! I hope you will be happy with the ring your BF choose for you!

Hi Ginzagirl: Thank you so much again for the info! You''ve really made my day happier with the prospect! When we went into HW, with just asking at the end, the SA offered us 10% off and said if we had it mailed out of state then we would not have to pay tax, so that would be roughly ~18-19% off total. I''m glad there is a possibility of more negotiation off the sticker price! We did not push it that day as we were just doing our preliminary search of rings. We''re both trying to be very cautious about this entire thing.
I really have become obsessed about rings ever since I saw the HW, trying to make a list of alternatives for him if he decides not to go that route!
Definitely consider Engagement Rings Direct as one of your alternatives. They make a stunning Harry Winston replica and are great at picking out amazing cushions. $ will definitely be easier on the pocket than HW! Best of luck!Date: 4/2/2008 12:21:52 PM

Imdanny- I got the 1.33 E/VVS2. It faces up larger than the 1.51. Here are the measurements:
1.33carat (7.19x6.78.3.87)
1.51carat (6.76x6.45x4.13)
Are my assumptions right???
