Has anyone ever negotiated a hospital bill?

I thought I would update this as we just settled it. When we first asked billing if we could pay less, they said they could give a 30% discount right away. They said if we waited some months, we could call back and it would be reduced to 50% (yep some angel in billing advised us to do this!). So that is what we did. So basically if you get a big bill, it never hurts to ask for a reduction.
