I've been going gray since I was 24 (28 now) and had been getting my hair colored at the salon. I stopped doing it about a year ago and my gray is driving me crazy! I stopped coloring because it was a pain to keep up with and I'm trying to cut chemicals out of my life as much as I can. I have seen the henna dye at Lush and was wondering if anyone had used it?

My hair is quite a normal medium brown, pretty fine in texture. I also recently started using Wen haircare and it has helped my hair a ton with moisture and defrizzing. When I was coloring I was aiming for a slightly deeper brown with a red tint to it. Please feel free to share your experiences below or if you have any other suggestions for a more natural hair coloring.

Thanks!

Please only buy 100% body art henna. There are henna 'dyes' that have other things mixed and can cause a lot of bad things to happen to your hair (one being when you try and bleach it out it can catch on fire).

I've dyed my hair twice with henna and was pleased with the results. There is a lot of info (you can use tea and other things to change/enhance different colors) and lots of resources on this site. If you find someone with the same color that you have you can see the results (and the recipe they used).

I did it twice then decided I wanted blue in my hair. No salon would touch me. I did a test on my hair from my brush (no flames lol I did use jamila henna which is 100%) and just bleached it myself (first time ever doing anything like that) and then also did the manic panic. it came out pretty well but it did have a slight hue to it but nothing that affected the blue. I liked the henna but FYI gloves are a MUST a shower cap is a MUST and towel the floor and wear crap clothes. Coconut oil around your skin that will be touched otherwise you'll be henna stained for at least a day or two.

I have heard that you can't use henna on anything other than virgin hair, and then, you can't ever use any dyes on the henna-ed hair. That stopped me from trying it :knockout:

Thanks for your advice ladies! I haven't colored my hair in almost a year so my hair should handle the henna fine from what I've read, yes I would love to see pics! I love have some red so I think I will do the brun and the marron. I'm going out today to get it and hopefully I'll be able to do it today!

I also just read that blog you linked, how awesome that Lush will apply it for you!!!! I'm going to make an appointment with them and save my bathroom floors, haha. So maybe not today but I will certainly have them do it!

Boo to a Lush in a busy mall, they will only do applications during they're quiet times which happens to be when most people (aka me) are at work. I have to wait until the Easter break if I want them to do it which I do so April it will be! It's OK though, I'll get it cut right before and it'll be as nice and fresh as it can be for the coloring. I'll update with pics when it's all done! Thanks for the help again ladies!
