Has anyone used the Touchstone insurance that WF recommends

I thought I posted this already...but I guess I never submitted it...

I just wanted to know if you use Touchstone, are you happy with it and does it cover lost and stolen rings?

Touchstone is a insurance agency, not really an insurance company. They sell Chubb and Gemshield products, both of which have been discussed here quite a bit. Claims are handled directly by the insurers. You can find posts about them with the search utility near the top of the page.

As an agency they are quite agreeable and I routinely recommend them.

I looked into Touchstone when I was investigating how to insure my ring from Whiteflash. You can choose either a GemShield replacement policy or a Chubb payout policy. Chubb obviously gives you more freedom because they just cut you a check, but it''s more expensive, and I believe they won''t insure a ring for less than $10,000 (appraisal value), so that was automatically out for me. GemShield sounds very similar to Jewelers Mutual, and I''ve heard so many good things about JM that I decided to go with them instead. GemShield goes to the jeweler where you purchased the ring to do the replacement. I believe JM lets you work with any jeweler...which really doesn''t matter to me because I''d go back to WF anyway, but I was impressed by the extent to which JM involves the consumer in the process.

Both of them appear to cover "mysterious disappearances."

Following your link, I read officially:

"A GemShield policy through Touchstone provides protection from loss, theft, damage, mysterious disappearance and provides that the insured item is repaired or replaced with like kind and quality from the consumers preferred jeweler."

Unoficially, JM will also protect you during the setting process, if both diamond & setting are appraised separately for that purpose. I wonder if Gemshield provides the same ostensible insurance?

Thanks for the correction! I wonder why they say this then:

"If you incur a loss, your jewelry will be replaced with a piece of like kind and quality from the participating jeweler who originally sold you the item."

Touchstone is excellent to work with on a policy. I used them to get our Chubb coverage.

Seconded! It is a great way to access Chubb for stand-alone jewelry policies, which can be hard to get from a regular agent.

Just thought I''d toss a "third" in here for Touchstone. I recently used them to get my Chubb policy and Ralph was awesome to work with and answered all of my moronic questions.

To clarify two points: 1) Jewelers Mutual''s personal jewelry insurance policy allows customers to select any jeweler during the claims process; and 2) Ira is correct in that JM will cover the setting process provided you contact our underwriting department before the work is done. We''ll provide you with all the details about completing the application and getting the proper appraisals in place.
