have setting, need help w ruby/reputable vendor

I would start by looking at rubies from the recommended vendors thread. Also, for that kind of investment, I would see as many red rubies in person as possible to learn about how they perform and your preferences for hue (what secondary color) and clarity.

Hello and welcome to PS :))

It's a very pretty setting and deserves a lovely gem. In the world of coloured stones, colour is king and a beautiful ruby will look stunning in your wife's choice of ring.

However choosing the right ruby is full of pitfalls so if you haven't yet, I would suggest reading the introductory thread on choosing a coloured stone https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-to-coloured-gemstone-buying-read-this-first.174284/.

Then you could look at some of the recommended vendors on another sticky where I've positioned you on the last page since that is the latest up-to-date version. https://www.pricescope.com/forum/co...ad-with-respected-cs-vendors-t169561-120.html

A couple of places to start to "get your eye in" would be Gemfix and AJSgems. Fortunately you have a good budget and with help from this forum, it shouldn't take too long to find a beautiful stone.

It can be overwhelming but we can help :))

Ah... I've just seen Preg has recommended seeing them in person also if you are able, that depends on where you live and what sort of jewellers you can get to, many don't carry loose stones (not rubies anyway). Please don't buy a ruby ring from a jeweller without taking pictures and running it past the forum, there are many experienced people with online buying experience here who can give excellent advice and aren't out to sell anything. We always just want to see the consumer find the best gem possible for their price point and other requirements.

Above all, ask questions and enjoy the process :))

ETA: a good place to become familiar with the colour range rubies come in is http://www.starruby.in/store/produc...r_result&categories_id=2&price_range=6&sort=3. The more you can tell us about your preferences the better. Note that these are not well cut for the most part but they have a large number of rubies showing the various colours so that you can hone in on a preferred colour. Some prefer a pinkish tone, others want pure red.

Due to the setting, does that mean you are tied to a round shaped ruby only? This shape is uncommon and you will find more oval options. Secondly, 2 carats run the gamut in measurements due to cut, so knowing what mm size you aim for is best. Third but not least, make sure the ruby is accompanied with a lab report from a reputable lab, namely AGL, GIA, SSEF, Gubelin and the like to be sure the treatment level is as stated.
