BTW, with my first chikd I was 100% positive I was having a boy. Waited til the birth to find out. I had a room full of blue stuff, and the nursery was also blue.

She is six and a half years old now.

My 2nd, I figured it was a girl. Was right about that one.

My 3rd, again, I knew it was a girl. EVERYTHING felt the same (only I was sicker, if that was possible LOL). I had an amnio at 18w and found out I was getting a baby boy.

I stink at predicting my own kids'' genders, but I am really good at guessing those of my pregnant friends. Go figure.
My favorite baby story is about a friend of mine. She and her husband had a sonogram and was told it was a girl. They told everyone it was going to be a girl. Picked out a name. Everything. When she gave birth, the doctor said, ''oh, look at that.'' I''m sure you can guess what that is.

Fortunately, the baby looked so much like his father that they just named him a Jr.!

The same thing happened to a friend of mine.

1. Have sex and you will go into labor
2. Age bracket 35-50
3. Grew up in midwest
4. I''m a mom
5. Heard this from a doctor (when I was several days overdue!)

As for knowing the sex of the baby, I was positive I was having a boy, I had a dream that seemed so real when I was expecting. I was convinced! Guess what, I had the most wonderful perfect baby girl!!!!!!!

1. The local legend is to go to Scalini''s and have the eggplant parmagiana. This restaurant is only a few miles from my house and whenever I''ve eaten there I see an inordinate number of pregnant ladies. They have baby pictures on the wall from people who swear it worked. It''s become so famous for it that it was covered on CNN and Good Morning America.

Here''s a link to the recipe: http://www.wchstv.com/gmarecipes/eggplantparmigian.shtml

I never tried it myself but if I hadn''t gone into labor just prior to my due date I probably would have been there.

2. age bracket 35-50

3. Grew up in the south

5. I don''t know where I heard this - everyone just knows it around here.

When I was preg with Eden I SWORE she was a boy!! We called her by the boys name we had picked, she was reffered to by the midwife as a boy, she was so active in my belly I just thought this has to be a boy! We did the string test and it said a girl but just passed it off as a silly test. Well the moment she came out and they handed her to me and DH and we realised she was a girl we just looked at eachother in shock! I will never forget the look on his face! Luckily we didn''t do the blue stuff, we stayed nutral!! Now with this baby I am not saying anything till he/she comes out!!

Haven''t heard the spicy food thing, but the lady I took a labor class from also mentioned various accupressure spots: rubbing/pinching the flesh between your thumb and first finger. Also a place around your ankle of your foot (can''t remember exactly where), and somewhere on your earlobe that are either supposed to induce labor or ease pain, but I can''t remember which!

but mostly I have heard (from relatives) that the baby decides when it''s time to come out, and we just have to accept the baby''s timing, even if its not inconvenient.

My water broke so when I got to the hospital did the walking bit for a couple hours, waited around a few more hours but no dice, ending up having to go on Potosin. Now that definitely works, but was still able to do natural labor (no pain meds).
It''s my belief/fear that epidurals can slow labor, making a caeseran more likely, and I''d rather go through some pain than have a caesearan.

My first I had pitocin... They forgot to tell me that those are supposed to be one of the most painful labors. HMMM... I had an epidural with my first... way to late.. after about 13hrs of intense pitocin induced labor.. IT SUCKED!!! I did nt make that mistake the second time... As soon as I hit 6cm the second baby, that anths. was in my room giving me an epidural. I was able to rest and nap a little so I had the energy to push.. It was WONDERFUL.. My baby was FINE.. I think the whole thing about if making the baby is bullarky too. But hey....

When my best freind got pregnant I told her the same thing as I told my SIL.. "Drugs do not make us bad mothers, they make us smarter that the women dying from the pain in the room next us.

I am glad that the ''natural labor'' thing worked out for you though.. but not me... FI wants one... first thing I will talk to my OBGYN about is what drugs I am going to use to get me through it.....

For me the choice to use no drugs was an easy decision. I new I could "deal" with the pain and I was so impressed with my body! It wasn''t that bad! I am totally looking forward to having my next baby in the comfort of my own home. I think it is to each her own decision. There are deffinately pros and con''s to both. I want to feel my body and know my baby isn''t going to have an adverse reaction to the drugs, he/she has alot to do during and after birth.
