Congratulations! It''s fabulous! Love the thin band. May I ask, what is your ring size?

Thank you all very much!

What are your thoughts on the setting? I had told my fiance that I wanted something slim and not a knife cut (as my friend had complained about her''s). He said after he proposed that it doesn''t look like the one he ordered. He went online to JA and showed me what he ordered. Here is what he ordered:

Here is another PSer wearing that setting:

I know that JA is a great company and will accept a return. As well, I know there is a possible explanation (it is the same band and I''m just confused or they ran out of that band). I''m just not sure what to do. Neither of us want to go through the hassle of returning it but both of us are saddened it doesn''t quite look like what he picked out. Thoughts?

Well at least I know one PSer (MsCushion) likes the band! Thank you.

I''m a 5.5.

BEAUTIFUL stone, and the ring looks just gorgeous on your finger

So pretty!

I would say that that setting is one that can work for someone who wants to wear a thin diamond band on both sides. But honestly, if my plan was to buy the original ring and wear one wedding band, I''d have it switched for the correct setting. You said you specifically didn''t want a knife edge, and that band is very thin and looks to be pretty close to knife edge. So my advice is to get it straightened out now while you can. I''d expect them to pay for overnight shipping both ways if it was their mistake so you don''t have to be without your ring but a few days.

It''s beautiful! I love cushions! Congrats on your engagement!

Well, it definitely doesn''t look like the one he picked out, or the setting you posted from PS. But... I''ve gotta say... I like the one you have better, LOL! The question is - do YOU like it? I think it adds a greaceful touch, personally.

I see what you mean - on the website the band looks thicker, and it looks like it tapers thinner towards the stone.. and on yours it just looks really thin all around. To me, yours looks thinner than 2.2mm but hey i''m no expert
3.gif

Nothing wrong with yours though - I really like the thin-ness. But that''s just me - I love thin bands!! It makes the stone look larger

.

But if you''re disappointed that it''s not quite what you thought you were gonna get then maybe you should go through the hassle and return it. Although I imagine it will be really hard to part with your ring after just getting engaged!!

It is beautiful!!!!! It looks so large on your hand! Could we see some profile shots? I agree, it is not the same setting... does the knife edge bother you? I love the setting that you had origonally picked out though!

It is beautiful on your hand, and look at all that finger coverage!

First off...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that that setting is one that can work for someone who wants to wear a thin diamond band on both sides. But honestly, if my plan was to buy the original ring and wear one wedding band, I'd have it switched for the correct setting. You said you specifically didn't want a knife edge, and that band is very thin and looks to be pretty close to knife edge. So my advice is to get it straightened out now while you can. I'd expect them to pay for overnight shipping both ways if it was their mistake so you don't have to be without your ring but a few days.
Secondly, I second this all the way. It is NOT the same band and it's not what HE picked out, and it seems to be the style you DIDN'T want. I think the ONLY reason you would keep it is because you already have it, but it's just NOT what you originally wanted and it's what someone else picked out (essentially, since it's not what your FI (yay!) picked out, but whoever set your stone!). I think you're really going to have to decide if you love it and would want it for years to come; if not, years (or months) down the road you're going to regret not doing something about it while you could. A few days is definitely worth it! So, I'd suggest you definitely get ahold of JA and even if your FI ordered the wrong band somehow, I'm SURE they'd be willing to take care of this to keep you a satisfied customer. AND, if the band from the PS thread is the same that you linked from JA's site, I'd say the stone is STILL going to look HUGE because that band still does taper quite a bit closest to the stone!! :) And, I actually prefer the band your honey MEANT to get, but I'm not a fan of knife edges at all!

I absolutely LOVE your diamond! It is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!! WOW. And I DEF would never have known it was a J...but also, I PREFER warmer colored diamonds, soo... :)

Also, any chance we can get side shots of the ring?? Pretty please??
12.gif

Let us know what happens!! :)

Because I'm a dork and I love photoshopping things, I thought it'd be neat to see what your stone would look like on that other band. Mind you, the angles are a little different so it's not 100% (you'll notice part of the other asscher still in the picture LOL)...but it'll give you an idea. :) I think it'll look sweet!!! :) :)

Also, this looks like the one you currently have? http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/classic-solitaire-settings/ring/item_57-2152_design.asp?module=setting Also, does your setting have just a 4 prong setting, or is it a basket b/c the one you posted looks like it has a basket setting and not just prong (if that's the right terminology?)

First off, CONGRATULATIONS...your ring is STUNNING!!! However, it does not look like same setting as he picked out and it definitely looks like a knife edge.
Hope you get it worked out, whatever you decide!

It looks beautiful and huge on your hand. Congratulations

Thank you all for the compliments! I will put up some profile shots as soon as I get home from work.

And thank you newsboysgrl777 for your awesome photo shopping skills!

I cannot find this band anywhere on JA’s website. It is a knife edge like band that is less than 2mm (or so says my ruler) with the same thinness the whole way around. It is the wire basket JA setting (as opposed to the four prongs), which rules out the one suggested by newsboysgrl777 as a possibility.

My fiance says that he likes the looks of it, but he says he knows how much I didn''t want a knife edge look. The ring is surprisingly comfortable (I had heard the knife edge can hurt when you squeeze your fingers together). Neither of us really wants to send it back, both because we don’t want to part with it and because we live in Canada (which means it having to go through customs twice).

Having now worn the ring, I have fallen in love with the thinness but still am wary of the knife-eque look. I’m going to go look at some shops on my lunch break to see if there are any flat engagements bands with 2mm (or less thickness) in our price range. If there is, I’ll make the swap, if there isn’t, I’ll continue to stare at the photo created by newsboyrsgrl777 wondering what to do.

What is it about the knife edge that makes you wary? I admit, it may look thin by itself, but when you pair a band with it - that could change. Before you decide, I'd suggest trying on some wedding bands to see how you like the look.

ETA: I'm still drooling. Had I found PS before we got my ring.... oh man... cushion LOVE.
