Head’s up - USPS mail theft

Slightly off topic but has anyone ever had any luck contacting an ISC in the US? I have a tracking number saying my package is there since November but USPS says it must have been sent back or call CBP. CBP says it is a USPS facility and therefore they don't track it

Thanks for all the info. I received box with bubble wrapped items from Gem Trader. The box was patially opened M but stones were inside, triple bagged/wrapped.. Thank goodness! i think it was usps as it was in mail box. Value around $600. Alerted vendor. Have ordered from him a few times before and this was first issue.

I send more valuable jewelry (800+) registered and insured with a required signature. The item is double boxed, with the inner box taped to the wall of the package. It takes longer and you cannot track it en route, but it's going to get there. It's cheaper than an insured priority package. I believe this is the only way to ship jewelry valued at over $5,000 that will be covered for loss by USPS.

Each person who touches your package signs for it. If Cletus is on vacation this week and he is the authorized registered mail carrier, your package is going to sit there until Cletus comes back. It's a drag but it takes the worry out of the situation.

Edit: You'll need to get paper mailing tape and tape every crevice of the box. It applies like self pasted wallpaper and it will need to dry. Once at the post office they stamp it all over to secure it from tampering.

This is how I’ve always sent watches and jewelry.

This happened to my mom. I don’t know how she packaged it or what carrier she used but she sent her 2ct engagement ring addressed to “XYZ Jewelers” and may as well have stamped a target on it for thieves.

It never arrived. Fortunately it was insured and she got to pick out a new, nicer engagement ring but it sucks.

When my jeweler mails me something it’s in a jewelery box in a cardboard box in a bubble envelope in a second cardboard box and maybe another envelope or box, I honestly can’t remember but every layer had a shipping label or “return to” label and I break a sweat trying to unwrap it all because the boxes the use are super sticky, there’s no easy tear options.

I'll clarify that I meant not sending fine jewelry of any real value (such as a diamond ring!) in a padded envelope. If I can afford the loss of the item, I wouldn't care.

I had someone send me a $500 moissanite and gold ring in a padded envelope. And that was it.

When it arrived I was like “wtf” - fortunately was in perfect condition but now I’m very specific about asking about packaging.
