Heading to NYC and the Diamond District, any advice??

Ooh, I love juniors cheesecakes! They are huge and yummy!!! I love Carnegie Deli's cheesecakes, too.

Maybe you can get discounted tickets to some broadway shows :) New Yorkers don't seem to care much about the storm in general. We hope this storm is not going to be so terrible. Please just don't go to Central Park in rain!

I am in NYC this weekend and my flight back to Chicago tomorrow just got cancelled. My hubby's flight back to Toronto is still good. I just rebooked another flight back to Toronto and then go back to Chicago (don't want to be stuck here for the whole week in a storm). I booked some emergency hotels in case I do get stuck.

I hope you do get out to NYC but the news here looks gloomy - no power, no transit, school cancellations, etc!

Glad you were able to get out, Charmy. Having been without power for a week due to hurricane Hugo (and we were 4 hours inland), I don't recommend traveling into hurricane territory. I hope the storm doesn't shut down NYC, but I think I would be very prepared with non-perishable food, water, flashlights, etc.

I am still here! My husband's flight got cancelled but mine departed. I decided to skip my flight and hang out here with my husband instead. We will see what happens. I have never seen Times Square so quiet.

We flew in this afternoon on one of the most turbulent flights I've ever been on!! Buss shut down at 7 and subway at 9. Sandbags are placed in font of several stores. Walked along 47th street and some have guns up they will be losed onnmonday, but not sure if will open on Tuesday. Midtown manhattan will be high enough to avoid loosing, but its staff that love in outlying areas that can't get to the city.

Walked around the city for a few hours and aside from winds, it's overcast only. No rain at all yet. Fairly mild temps but who knows what will happen in the next few hours. Just hearing news that over 7600 flights in and out of NYC have been cancelled. Glad DH and I left okay to be here, now we have to just see what happens. May not get to experience imagine district if this becomes as severe as planned.

Must stay positive! Charmypoo- where are u staying right now? We are on 46th st tonight moving to Park ave tomorrow.

Well, ladies, I hope you both stay safe and that the storm weakens much more quickly than they are predicting. Enerchi, I had really hoped you wouldn't go!!! I hope you had time to buy emergency supplies!

Yes, I have been thinking of PSers in NY too! I think Dougsgirl was supposed to meet up with Enerchi ; I'm not sure about Charmypoo. I hope they stay safe and also everyone else in the storm's path. :saint:

I was at Loews Regency on Saturday - it was a horrible hotel experience. I got the heck out of there and I am at Westin Times Square. I rather stay here as it is busier and has more stuff around in case things are bad.

DOUGSGIRL - what happened? did u go? :wavey:

Hey Dougsgirl! :wavey:

How are you? I am getting worried that you haven't posted in a long time. I hope you are doing well!

Classy!!! I have missed you, too!!! How is your setting search going??? I hope dougsgirl will be back, too!

DS,

You are so sweet! I was able to visit Moradi's and Langs while on vacation! I know I should have taken pictures for PS, but I feel awkward doing that in the store. Anyway, I love the old settings for the antique cut diamonds, but I really think I want something more "open" for my diamond. I am glad that I was able to "rule out" some styles that I thought I would love more diamond; so, I guess I am making progress! Thanks for asking! :wink2:

Oh how fun!!! I totally understand how awkward it is to ask to take pictures! I have only done it once at Tiffany's and I had the courage to ask because someone was with me! It was great that you were able to see a variety of settings and realize that the antique settings might not be the best choice for your stone. It will be gorgeous in whatever you choose, I am certain! I think I might lean towards a split shank setting for yours since you don't want it to look just like an e-ring. Please post when you have some new thoughts!

Oh yes, it was great fun to go to those two stores! I tried on the 7.97 OEC at Langs! It is a gorgeous ring; the setting really calls for an older style diamond like the one that is in it. I also discovered that I like diamonds that are G or lower colored. =) In my opinion, they have more personality, even some of the antique emerald cut diamonds looked beautiful in a J color! I don't mean to offend anyone who is fortunate enough to own a high colored diamond though; they are truly rare.

I still like the ring VC had in mind for the 1.8 for you :Up_to_something: I wouldn't mind that one for my diamond since it is really open, but interesting too! I won't do anything until after Christmas regardless; I want to enjoy my home and family. I'd have to fly to LA, or else use Brinks if I use VC. I can't get my brain around all that right now!

I noticed your gone too but then you posted in Enerchi's thread! Hope all is well!

I am home now! Thank you so much for checking!
We left for NYC on 10/25 and came home on 11/1... So we were in Times Square during the craziness of the hurricane. It was so busy, I didn't check PS at all. SO sorry!! And I have barely been on here since I've been home. I think I am just trying to love my new ring without all the competition on PS. Know what I mean??

But the trip to NYC was incredible!! Even through Hurricane Sandy (thankfully we were in a location that wasn't directly effected) it was still an amazing experience. I am actually grateful I got to be there during that time. It was so surreal to watch the city shut down, to see the people and how they respond to crisis, and then watch the main streets slowly come back online. Yes... there were a lot of things we didin't get to do because they were closed... but we got to see things that most visitors will never experience. We got to witness the Spirit of New York... the heart of the people... the courage and strength and resilience... it was fascinating! I have fallen in love with that city!

Of course I am still so saddened by all of the destruction and the people that are still suffering. It was so very strange to be SO close to it all, yet be watching it on TV like everyone else. In Times Square we only saw a blustery, stormy day... but no flooding or power outages. We were sitting in our hotel room with a glass of wine, watching the rain and empty streets through the hotel window and watching the updates on the news. And we have decided that we love the Irish people... Even when everything was closed, the Irish pubs remained open providing cold drinks and hot food for the stranded tourists like us. They were awesome!

Thank you for checking on me!
I am so thankful for the opportunity to go to New York, and to meet Enerchi, and even to experience "Frankenstorm". It was the trip of a lifetime!

See the above post....

I'm glad you're back! And I understand the whole hiatus from PS. I think I took one that was like a year long. It clears your head. Cuz you do tend to compare rings even tho you try not to and love what you have. But I hope to continue to see you in the future! Maybe a trip to Portland is in the stars :) haha

I am so glad you had a wonderful trip in spite of the hurricane!! :appl: I love NY, too, and really want to go back soon!

We all can relate to the conflicts of spending time here, but I hope you'll stick around because we enjoy having you here!

Thanks Friend!
I don't think I'll be able to stay away for long! :naughty:
I'm already back on today purusing a few threads. I just want to be sure that I am here for the right reasons, and not second-guessing my ring/diamond/design. There are SO many beautiful things out there, and at some point we just have to choose one. But that doesn't mean there won't be others that we love. I just desire to have a heart that is thankful and content, and not envious or discontent. So, I have to check myself occasionally.

But I love all the information here, and, of course, all of YOU!!
I also love being a part of a community who loves bling as much as I do!! No one else in my RL shares it with me.

So, all that to say... I think I'll stick around. ;)
Thanks for wanting me!
