In the simplest terms, does a space under the diamond in a prong setting allow more light to shine through the bottom of the diamond adding to the brillaince and sparkle?

Does the absence of a space mean that the setting is incorrect or too small for the size of the stone?

I have a four pronged setting and the bottom of the stone rests against the band and my fiance''e feels that it was an error by the jeweler. Is this correct?

Do I have a valid arguement to make him raise the diamond?

At this point a simple yes or no to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

No, a well cut diamond does not admit light from the pavilion.

The point of the stone should also not be resting on the band of the stone but for reason of integrity of the stone as a knock from the top would also more likely to break the point.

First question, no.

It usually should not rest against the bottom, more for safety purposes than for performance purposes.
