If the sales associate is unable to do that, then just get your money back and buy a diamond from someplace that educates their sales staff.

Before you do this - Get your money back and start the process over. It's virtually impossible to negotiate the best deal possible for yourself while they are holding on to your 'almost 4,000.00'. As long as they can keep your money for 30 days, they are in the clear to keep it forever (see below).

You have a great budget to work it that will allow you to get A LOT MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!.

You will also be benefited by asking all of pricescope their thoughts on diamond cuts and specs BEFORE you buy. Knowledge is power!!

Good luck, I really hope you can find a diamond that makes you proud to show it off.

I believe the diamond does have a culet.
all diamonds have a culet - on many the culet is pointed, on some it can be small or large

Yes, but if she likes her setting and just wants to change the diamond, she may very well be able to find a decent diamond at Jared's. And they *should* be willing to negotiate with her and find a better cut diamond for her. We don't know what the other retail options are for the OP and/or if she's willing to buy online.

I guess what I'm saying is give Jared's a chance to make it right -- but yes, do it quickly, to stay within the 30 day return period.

And to the OP, if you truly don't trust Jared's and are willing to start over with a new setting and a new diamond, then, by all means, just go in and get your money back and start over.

Re: HELP: am I seeing a fish eye effect in my new diamond???

So I was playing around last night with some diamonds to see if I could recreate what' nicmarie described and success! Sure enough I got the black hole when I tilted the diamond towards my body. What I thought was a nail head now is probably more darkness caused by body obstrutction and is being accentuated by the lighting. It's easier to notice the obstruction in dimmer lighting like home than in brighter lighting like jewelry stores or my workplace. So I would compare the diamond to others and see if this black hole is only in your diamond (nail head) or happens with all diamonds (body obstruction).
