Hope it's ok to post in RT because it's a jewelry shipment that this is concerning. I got an item and I told the vendor before making the purchase (I've bought from them before) that I would be at my TN address instead of TX address. I won't be back to TX for over a month. I wasn't at either address at the time of purchase, so I told vendor to hold item until I got back. When I got back to TN I wrote the vendor saying I was home, and wrote my TN address. She said it would ship the next day. Well as I am looking at tracking now I see it is being sent to TX! And think what happened is when I paid with PP she just did an auto label which probably had my TX one in the PP acct. I just realized this now, wrote vendor, but it's two hours earlier there so I am freaking out on PS to see if I can get any advice. When I look into package intercept, which I don't even know if the package is eligible for, it seems that there are fees and that the item reships Priority but what I don't know is will the insurance carry over? What happens if I cannot intercept; there is nobody there to sign for the package so does it automatically go back to vendor and then she reships?

How was it shipped? USPS Priority? With or without signature confirmation, restricted delivery? Registered?

It was shipped priority w signature required. When I put the tracking on the USPS website about intercept it says ineligible :((. I don’t know why. Still waiting to hear back from vendor. Ugh this sucks.

I would imagine it is returned to the vendor if they can’t deliver it. Not sure what type of shipping she used with USPS; hopefully she can tell you all of this as soon as you can be in touch with her.

I wonder if you call your local Texas post office phone number, if they could intercept. Don’t call the 800 number. You can Google the town PO for a local phone.
I mailed a Coach phone case to a woman who had provided me with the wrong zip code for her town. We were able to call the post office and they re routed it for us. Worth a shot tomorrow morning! Good luck. So stressful this hobby of mailing gems!!

From what I read it will sit in the post office for many days before that happens. I’m just really paranoid about it getting lost in that situation. Anxiously waiting to hear!

Yes I am going to try calling them. I don’t have a lot of hope because I’m the recipient and not the sender. And this is a higher ticket item but I will try dependent on what the vendor says.

I don’t know the answer to this but ugh what a crappy and nerve-racking situation!! Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out :(2

It will be okay. Most likely it will get sent back to the sender. Does anyone have your house key? Can you get a friend to go over to sign for it?

Thank you even though I told her twice I was going to be a Nashville I’m still kicking myself for not double checking the PayPal when I paid. I was out of the country and it was midnight at the time I did the purchase.

Yes I have thought about doing that but I would have to get somebody to go to my home and wait around for it which is an inconvenience! I’m still waiting to hear from the vendor to see what my options are.

Eta also if I did that I would definitely be outside the return window if by the time I got home I decided it wasn’t for me.

If you were my friend that lived nearby I would be very happy to do it for you. I would give her the heads up even if you don’t need her.

Definitely call your local TX PO. Talking to a human at a smaller establishment can work wonders! Perhaps you could reserve a PO Box at that branch and have them just stick it in there for you?

With Registered they would not have delivered without your signature, but unfortunately Priority packages… Well, the signature specification seems to be more of a general guideline than a requirement.

I would start a convo with the vendor, too, and confirm that since it was mailed to the incorrect address (that’s on the vendor, not you), if rerouting attempts are unsuccessful and it does end up in Texas - the return policy would obviously be extended until you’ve had a chance to retrieve it and look at it.

Like previous posters have said, connecting directly your local post office might be very helpful. I’ve had a small precious package “sent Priority” lost (PO claimed delivery, there was a photo) but somehow it hadn’t actually been left. When I went personally to the PO they actually went into the back warehouse and found the package after all.

I hope you find a solution to your dilemma. Do you have anyone local that can personally visit the post office for you? Another idea is to have someone in your neighborhood alert your local mail carrier en route, and find out what to do officially from them (this will make them aware of the situation). Good luck and I hope things work out for you. The good news is that I really think there’s a process at the PO and they are fairly careful about it.

Fingers crossed for you!

I would definitely NOT tell them what's in the package or that it is a high value item. Doing so would tip-off anyone who is not honest that this is the package to watch out for to steal.

Thank you!

In fairness of the vendor (no shade on you @Mreader!), I believe if someone pays by PP invoice, they have to send it to the address on file. Otherwise it voids their seller protection or something.

I wonder if maybe that's why it can't be rerouted?

I remember this almost happening to me once. Fortunately, there was a tax difference between shipping to my address on file with PP and my new address, so I was able to catch it before making the final payment.

I’ve had jewelry delivered to my other house after paying with PayPal. I paid David Klass but asked him to ship it to my other house which he did. I was isolating there at the time. I thought Covid would be over in three months. :roll2:

I suspect it’s saying ineligible to be rerouted because it’s already so close to the destination. It’s already arrived at the facility near the Texas house. But I will find out tomorrow!

If you're in the Houston metro area, I'd be happy to do what I can to help.

I think they'll just return to the sender if you are not back to pick it up within the amount of time they hold it at that post office. I am not familiar with recalling a package with USPS. The only other thing I can think of is to have your mail forwarded to your other address until you return to TX.

Oh! The post office can hold mail for up to 30 days! It won't help with getting the ring to you with the return period I'm assuming, but hopefully it won't be sitting out on your porch at least. Hopefully either the sender can recall it before it gets delivered, or USPS can bounce it back if it does. Not sure what would happen with the shipping fees if the item does need to be reshipped...

It’s a signature required so they won’t hold it that long. And I also don’t want to wait lol! Depending on what happens I might have to be posting in the two week club. I will be certain to keep you guys posted tomorrow when I find out more.

Ugh, what a headache. Oh, fyi, for the 30 day hold, I meant as like a vacation hold. Not sure if different packages would have different rules, but just wanted to clarify.

Are you able to get the dimensions of the box? What I mean is, is it small enough that it would fit into your mailbox, as opposed to being left on a porch? If so, could a trusted neighbor or a friend that you have in TX go take it out of the mailbox and hold for you? Maybe the friend could do a return to sender? Or, is it a locked mailbox? Ugh! I have done exactly what you did, paypal payment and forgot to change the shipping address.

I am hoping the mail carrier follows protocol and leaves the attempted delivery notification and takes it back to the PO. Not to worry you, but I have had a few experiences where it was priority mail signature required and I was not home to sign, but it was delivered anyway and tracking read, "signed for by" xxx (me)." The other time, the tracking read, "left with individual" and was also in my mailbox. So, just trying to outline some possible outcomes, which is why I asked about neighbor or local friend.

Thanks for letting me know that! If they put it in my box my neighbor has a key. I had to call the dreaded 800 number bc couldn't reach local P.O. and she said once they attempt delivery I can go online and either select pickup, redeliver, or return to sender. So in this case I would select return to sender so vendor can get it to me but I am skeptical that this is a selection because I don't recall seeing that option before. In any case I will keep everyone posted. As of now it still says out for delivery.
