I crave a pear, people. I long for it most ardently. But so far, I haven''t had any luck finding one!

I know we all like a challenge, so since I seem to have a blind spot, wanna help me find a pear? The budget is $1000: I love warm colors, but I''d prefer to stay at SI1 or above. I''m fine with buying new or vintage, and I tend to actually like my pears long and skinny or short and fat - unusual looking, basically. I''m planning to have the stone set in a bezel, sort of like Han001''s gorgeous pear. OH, and bonus points for fluorescence!

Whadda you say, any takers?

I will bite, give me a bit of time to search today and I will see what I can come up with! I am a pear owner and love this shape so pear hunting is always fun!

Lorelei, you are a queen among women! These are all beautiful.

I have to admit, I was hoping to go a little bigger ... VVS quality is less of a priority for me than size. But I''m going to study the specs on these babies, and hope their big sister comes along soon!

You are too kind!!!! I can find you bigger if we included SI2 but if you prefer to stick to SI1 thats not a problem!

For example,

I think I need to learn to love the S12 - these are almost exactly what I had in mind! I need to go and examine them in greaaaaaaat detail, I think.

Lorelei, you are awesome. Thank you! Out of all of these, do *you* think that any one is a standout? The middle one in this most recent post tempts me mightily ....

* Blush...* thank you Circe my dear!!!

You know the middle one does look rather tempting, its a plump li'l pear and worth asking for an ASET from JA....Check it is eyeclean to your standards as usual, the whereabouts and severity of the feather and ask how much of a bow tie it shows, as a pendant that might not be a huge deal anyway.

Okay, have e-mailed them to ask if it''s possible to order a pear from them and have it bezel-set ... fingers crossed!

Aaaaaaaaaaaand, hold the phone! The ridiculously generous husband just quadrupled the budget.

I''m ... going to go and lie down for a bit now, to let my head stop spinning ....

No Way!!!!! How exciting!!!!! Now you can really go for it!!!

These 2 are my favorites (just from viewing the diamonds)...Good job Lorelei!

I'm not a fan of the ones with big shoulders...they look kind of lop-sided to me. This one is an example.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??????

Hee, I KNOW! That is almost exactly what I said!

I think with this budget, I''m about to get a whole lot pickier: I think this is the first time in my life that the budget has actually exceeded what I wanted to the point of letting me be choosy, and, by damn, I plan to luxuriate in it! I''m normally a big bargain shopper, but on this? I am totally going to go for the never-to-be-upgraded pendant of my dreams.

I love the colorless pear with strong blue fluorescence that you and TyTy333 both pegged (TyTy, I am so psyched right now!). That''s basically exactly what I want: colorless, strong blue, a good old-fashioned blue-white. I think my only additional parameter might be that I do want a weird shape ... something with a 1.75:1 ratio, maybe. This one''s a bit longer - but no strong blue, alas.

And when I find it, I will love it and squeeze it and call it Geor - wait, wrong story! WHen I find it I will bezel it in platinum with miligrain on the inside bezel, like that gorgeous pendant someone (who?) just posted in SMTR.

EXCITED, I tell you!

Hm ... is 64.5% too deep for a pear? Proportions are 9.13x5.94x3.83.

I know nothing about pears, but how exciting to have a nice budget for the project!! You deserve it Circe!

No m''aam.

That''s what I like to hear! Now, to see if the vendor can send me an ASET.

And, you know, to see if I can figure out how to interpret one. :)

P.S. - Is there any way to figure out which dealers have PS discounts, short of just e-mailing and asking them? Masterlist?

Thanks, Dreamer! Talk about unexpected - I''ve been walking around with a goofy smile for the last two days. Whenever my husband sees me obsessing on the computer, he damn near starts to giggle. Aside from the whole "good husband" factor, I think it may have been worth it to him in entertainment factor alone when I hopped out of bed after the lights were out to go and check proportion charts "just to be sure" ....

OMG Circe!!! WOW!!! Your lovely hubby!!!

I just wanted to chime in to say I have a long pointy, 1.01ct I colour, SI2 with strong blue fluor. I''ve never seen it look anything other than white and in sunlight the fluor gives it an amazing effect. I adore fluor - it just seems to be a natural little lightbulb to me!

Don''t forget though that you want to look for one without a bowtie OR a minimal bowtie. Just wanted to throw that into the mix.

Now, that''s something worth keeping in mind - thanks for the tip! I''ve searched and searched using the PS engine, and I''ve narrowed it down to 6 possible stones - now I have to wait for them to tell me if they can send photos and ASETS (why, oh why can''t everyone have JA''s lovely technology?). Here''s what I''m wondering: can you actually tell if a stone will have a bow-tie from a still photo/the numbers? I always thought it was an in-motion thing ....

Not really as obstruction, tilt angles etc can play a part, best to ask the vendor who has the stone in house how much of a bow tie a particular diamond shows.

Are you sude you don''t want your pear in a ring that YOU can see and enjoy every day?

Heheheh - tempting, tempting! But I feel like I have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to rings. A pendant, now, that will be a rarity in my jewelry box. And if I get a nice long chain, I''ll be able to enjoy it too ....

Circe- If you''re in or around the nyc area, you can view the JA stones in person.

Really! Huh, it never occurred to me that they'd have a BM outpost ... you intrigue me mightily!

ETA: I must be missing something - the only info. I can find on their main page says they're in MD. Is there an appraiser they trust enough to ship to for viewing, or ...?

Yep. The stones are located in nyc.

I worked with Josh on a pear I got for my mom, and was told I could see it in person.

I have made a gamble. Describing, not hyperventilating ....

When I searched, I methodically went through every color and clarity combination in my zone, using strong blue fluorescence as my guidestone, and one stone stood out as being a lot ... well, bigger ... than any of the others in my price range.

The downside is that Solomon Brothers (the vendor in question) doesn''t do photos or ASETs. The plus side is that they have a generous return policy ....

So, I ordered it. It''s an E SI1 with strong blue fluorescence. The sales rep who I spoke to on the phone called the wholesaler who had possession and came back saying that the bowtie was negligible and that the inclusions were white and unobtrusive, so ... fingers crossed!

Tell me your thoughts while I go and breath into a paper bag!

Sometimes you can hit a home run by taking a chance, if you don't like it then you can send it back! Looks like it should be a longer than fatter pear from the dimensions.

Circe

The dimensions on yours (nice find btw!) are very similar to mine. Mine is a smidge longer and skinnier and yours is deeper. Mine has a minimal bowtie so hopefully with the depth on yours, as the vendor says, it will be neglible.

9.20 x 5.65 x 3.25 Mine
9.13 x 5.94 x 3.83 Yours

Now .............. breathe!

I am hoping it will be worth it! The only thing that concerns me is the "good" on symmetry, but since I actually *like* the weird-looking stones, I''m hoping it will turn out to be something nifty to my eyes. And, exactly! I started the holiday shopping early enough to take a chance ....
