The dimensions on yours (nice find btw!) are very similar to mine. Mine is a smidge longer and skinnier and yours is deeper. Mine has a minimal bowtie so hopefully with the depth on yours, as the vendor says, it will be neglible.

9.20 x 5.65 x 3.25 Mine

9.13 x 5.94 x 3.83 Yours

Now .............. breathe!

LovingDiamonds, I am going to go and search your backposts to see your pear! That sounds beautiful. I *wish* I could have found a longer one (I love the long skinny pears), but hopefully this one will have its merits, too.

Question about bow-ties, in general: are they likelier in deeper stones, or shallow ones? I always thought it was the former, hence last night''s questions ....

I have made a gamble. Describing, not hyperventilating ....

When I searched, I methodically went through every color and clarity combination in my zone, using strong blue fluorescence as my guidestone, and one stone stood out as being a lot ... well, bigger ... than any of the others in my price range.

The downside is that Solomon Brothers (the vendor in question) doesn''t do photos or ASETs. The plus side is that they have a generous return policy ....

So, I ordered it. It''s an E SI1 with strong blue fluorescence. The sales rep who I spoke to on the phone called the wholesaler who had possession and came back saying that the bowtie was negligible and that the inclusions were white and unobtrusive, so ... fingers crossed!

Tell me your thoughts while I go and breath into a paper bag!

Sometimes you can hit a home run by taking a chance, if you don''t like it then you can send it back! Looks like it should be a longer than fatter pear from the dimensions.

I am hoping it will be worth it! The only thing that concerns me is the ''good'' on symmetry, but since I actually *like* the weird-looking stones, I''m hoping it will turn out to be something nifty to my eyes. And, exactly! I started the holiday shopping early enough to take a chance ....
I wouldn''t worry too much about that, far more fancy shapes have good for symmetry than rounds - more important is how it looks to you!

LD, yes I have heard some say shallower pears are less likely to show a bow tie but I have found it very much depends, see how it looks when you see it.

That''s really interesting because in coloured gemstone world it''s the shallow stones that tend to show bowties so I had assumed the same for diamonds! Thanks for the info Lorelei.

Most welcome M'dear! This one doesn't come up much but I do seem to remember the general concensus being that shallower fancies can show more of a bow tie....Unless one of the experts wants to say nay!

ETA - I got it round the wrong way, shallower are said to be more likely to show bow ties -aagh!!! Edited for corrections above.

Circe - I thought that bowties were more prevalent in shallow stones!!! Lorelei?

To save you looking here''s the original thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/pear-with-strong-fluor.94392/

LD, I am madly in love with your stone - and your beautiful ring! I hope mine will look as lovely! And, damned if I can see a bow-tie anywhere in there: those proportions look *perfect.*

Intriguing ... Lorelei, the link isn''t working for me, and that''s a discussion I''d love to read. Could you repost?
