Yes, I wouldn't recommend a cone setting. Closed settings like that can also trap bacteria, and start to smell.

I just put payment through for the ring today (I thought I'd already put through payment, but had to go through PayPal as it is an international transaction). The shipping states "express mail", so hopefully I'll receive the (my!) stone very soon. Easter will probably delay the mail a bit though.

I think I can make changes to the setting style, they will just jack the price up as it will then be classed as a one of a kind ring. It's a bit hard to negotiate as the shop assistants don't really know much about the details - I'd rather speak with the actual jewelers. I also have the option of going to an independent jeweler and having him design/make something similar.

Lots of options and lots to think about, but I have to say that I'm loving the process

I got the gemfix pink sapphire yesterday! Pics are on the vendor vs owners pictures thread. I don't see much peach in the stone most times, but I still like it. I want to see it against different coloured gold and will take it to the jewelers soon.
