I've been shopping around JA for a while and fell in live with this setting: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/Engagement-Rings/Vintage/Platinum-Royal-Antique-Style-Round-Shaped-Diamond-Engagement-Ring-item-1839 (Note that the photo is wrong, the side stones are diamonds and not sapphires. I confirmed this with the JA rep and will double check when I place the order.) I think my lady will love it as she likes vintage style rings and side stones. I'm trying to figure out the best value within my $5k budget for the stone. Looking to get the most sparkle I can for the money. I'm not sure how to pick the best. I don't want any obvious to the naked eye inclusions. I can get much better cuts by going down to I or J in color, but will the color be noticeable next to the G-H side stones?

A few I was eyeing:

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Round-cut/1.01-carat-J-color-VS1-clarity-Excellent-cut-sku-147129

http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Round-cut/1.31-carat-J-color-SI1-clarity-sku-181358 which is over the budget, but what I'd guess is a pretty obvious size increase.

Please tell me what you think of the stones I linked, and share any others you'd recommend in my price range for the setting I chose.
Thanks

Heres a nice j I found. I posted it somewhere else but I don't think he's interested

I think if your going to use sapphires as the side stones I think a j is fine.
I'm on the phone now but did you run those stones though the hca calculator under tools??

This one got a 1.7 on the HCA and the J that the OP posted was a 1.8 on the HCA. I'm not a fan of the I or the 1.33ct you posted OP but I'd highly suggest this one that scored a 1.2 and for a J looks pretty white:

Since the side stones are G/H in color, I would probably try to not go lower than an I for the center stone. However, the JA gemologist can tell you if the Js you are looking at are "high Js" (whiter) or "true Js" (more tinted). If you're color sensitive, you may be able to see the difference in color. A J with blue fluorescence could also help make the stone look whiter in certain lighting.

Regardless, JA should be able to tell you if the stone you picked will match the side stones.

The link I saw had sapphire sides. If your concerned just ask them to put matching sides in. Might even be cheaper sense its js vs gs

Oh good point! I would request matching J color side stones if you went with a J center then!
