Has anyone seen a large, 5ct plus, emerald cut pink stone that I could use in a ring? This would be a special occasion ring and I want a med. pink color but I won't be really picky. I think my only option is a spinel.

My next question is if I can't find one...which I have been looking for so I don't have high hopes at all, then who would you contact to possible cut one? I have seen and purchased several RB's, asschers and cushions from most of the PS cutters but I rarely have seen an emerald cut. I bought an emerald cut aqua off of Freke a while ago that was done by Barry which I adore but I think I read somewhere he is not doing custom orders anymore??? :nono: Or maybe just this summer? I'm not in a huge rush to start this project but I'm getting a lid put off because I just cant' find anything...and no the cut is a non-negotiable item for me.

I have an $1500 budget just for the stone. Please help PS!! Thank you so much in advance!

Hi SB: I notice that Roger Dery has a 5 ct, pale pink emerald cut morganite on his website for sale...I LOVE his cutting - maybe that might fit the bill?

AJS has some pink tourmaline that's octagon shape but scissor or radiant cut. Not sure if that'll do. Or, if you can increase your budget 10-fold, they have a killer 5carat emerald cut pink sapphire. :)

I saw that lovely morganite at a recent Roger Dery roundtable, and it is a lovely stone. But, it is a definitely a pale pink, not a medium pink. Still, it is gorgeous and the perfect size, Sarah. I don't recall the price.

Wow, FlyGirl, you didn't miss a thing at that recent roundtable :Up_to_something:

I would ask Precision Gem. He had a lot of tajik pink spinel rough that cut huge but somewhat included stones which made them a bargain. Maybe he has some left. There are still a few tajik spinels on his site, but not one that fits the bill.

I would ask Barry about a pink tourmaline. I think he changed his drops to monthly from weekly so that he could maybe take on some custom orders. Not sure how often he gets rough in that is that large, but he tends to have clean pieces (good for an emerald cut), and a lot of medium pink tones. Lisa Elser would be another person to ask, as she often cuts large stones.

The roundtable is one of the great guilty pleasures of my life, spending an evening fingering up 120 of Roger's gorgeous gemstones. That pink morganite is one of the few that I "dibbed" to come back for a longer look on my palate. Gotta love a big gorgeous pink emerald cut morganite. I ended up with a 5 ct pinkish zircon instead, that has flash that literally you can see across the room. It all depends on what Sarah is looking for. Subtle or flashy.

BTW, Roger goes around the country doing these roundtables, in between trips to Africa for rough and his cutting duties. Perhaps you can find one at a jeweler near you. A heavenly evening awaits, I assure you.

This pink zircon is still marked as available on his website, and my guess is that it would be in budget and have nice dispersion.

There's a lot of good suggestions on this thread!

You could also ask Jerry at Gemart Services. I know he still has some of the Namibian pink tourmaline rough that he cut my stone from, and he's SO easy to work with. He's responsive to emails and he cut two stones for me in a week. Based on his pics, I decided the first one was too small and pale, and the second one was perfect. He will cut to size (or as close as he can) and he's got a host of cutting options that he can suggest as well. I think he would be well within your budget.

Thanks MB I just took a quick look at Roger's site but didn't see it. Then again I also have a rather fussy 9 month old on my hip so my attention was split. Do you have the link?

Umm...how do you feel about 8.04ct? Tourmaline is prone to facet wear but you did say a special occasion ring.

Stone: 8.04 ct
Mozambique Pink Tourmaline
fancy emerald
12.8 x 10.1 mm
Clarity: eye clean
Origin: Tanzania

Over on Weblorn http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-CUT-HUG...4884?pt=Loose_Gemstones_1&hash=item4842eb7e64

Well I love the size there seems to be alot of darkness on one side of the stone. Plus I'm looking for more of a classic cut emerald. Also to me this looks rather brown. Might be a monitor. But still very interesting find....I always forget about ebay. I'm so jealous of all those PSers who found great deals on there!

Hey NKOTB- is your friend still interested in my ring? if so I dropped the price on it. No worries either way.

Yes I think Barry is my best bet. Specifically because I love the aqua he cut that I bought from Freke. I just need to email him. Hopefully after the kiddos go down.

Hi Sweetie:

It was only afterwards that I saw you were looking for a medium pink stone, so I don't think this will cut it for you - no pun intended. Anyway, here it is:

I'll keep you in mind, though!

Thanks MB. While I would like a darker pink at this point I would rather sacrafice on some of the color vs cut....I really have my heart set on an emerald cut! Plus I really really like the cut of the morganite you linked too. I contacted Roger for pricing. Now I'm off to contact Berry to see about a custom piece. I'm hoping I will have some good news soon!

Sarah and other Scopers,
I'd like to know what hue comes to your minds when you specify "pink." Or even "medium pink." I was idly wondering if I had a stone in stock that would meet Sarah's need and began to think about how that word differs subjectively in meaning from person to person. I recalled a Richard Hughes article that explores the question in regard to padparadscha sapphire hue. The article raises some interesting points, I think.

I'll be interested to read any of your comments posted here: http://www.palagems.com/ruby_sapphire_borders.htm

Pink, to me only means that it is a light toned red. I supposed the word medium refers to the tone, so it's not a light pink nor dark toned pink. No saturation was mentioned at all but if she wanted a strongly saturated stone, the OP would have written "hot pink". So my guess is a medium toned pink without other modifiers (no purple and no orange) and medium saturation.

That pretty much sums it up. Thank you Chrono. I would go for anything from a light pink to a medium pink but I'm not looking for a dark/ hot pink color. I perfer softer more pastel.
