Help finding Center Stone

100% depends on your eyes. And also depends on your level of colour tolerance (I specifically use that word instead of perception, because just being able to spot tint will not mean that it is a negative for you). I’m someone who aces all the colour/hue perception tests online, but when it comes to diamonds, all I can see is “shiny” lol. Sure, if I put a D colour next to an I colour or something, I can tell that one is more tinted than the other, but I can’t say seeing an I in isolation will make me think “omg so yellow/brown”. It generally looks reasonably white to me. The lowest colour stone I’ve seen that still faces up quite white is estimated N-O. But that’s to my eyes.

I think asking WF to make you comparison videos between an I, J and K (the J and K you found, and another I that works for you budget wise) should help. If you want, order the K unset and take a look at it in person. You can always then send it back to be set. And if it’s too tinted, you can exchange it before the custom setting is made. You’re only out one round trip of shipping costs, at max.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I did talk with the rep over at WF more and had her send some more photos of other grades in an similar range, and then some more photos of this actual 1.004 K VS1 to see it in different lighting, on a hand, and then some videos of it in a white solitaire setting from different angles.

From everything I've seen, I think I am a bit more tolerant of hue variations. She did say that K's can be more brownish or more yellowish, and people like both. From what she saw this seemed to be of the slight yellow hue when looking at the side in areas. I really wasn't seeing it as distracting from the diamond in everything she has shown me, and decided to go ahead and get it on order!

It'll be here Friday, if all looks good then I will be sending it to the jeweler to have the setting made and will finally be in the waiting part of the game here!

Thanks again for all your help, hopefully my mind doesn't change once I see this first hand, though I have a good feeling about it.

Regards,

Jeff

Awesome...really looking forward to reading about your thoughts and impressions on it and hopefully some sneak-peek pics before you send it for setting.

Great update! I think you'll be blown away by the performance. ACAs will light up a room. Let us know how it goes when you see it on Friday!

Would love pics! Excited for you!

It arrived from WF yesterday without any issue, didn't have a chance to inspect it (away from the apartment as to not have her see it haha, had to have a fun excuse of "errands" like going to the post office ha) until today.

I wanted to be sure I liked the K color, the disco quality, and wanted to confirm it was the matching stone to the ASG certificate.

I had picked up a cheap 10x triplet jewelers loupe on Amazon and used the Tool Kit WF gave me to check the stone out.

It looks amazing and draws the eyes quite a bit in person. The magnified images certainly show any imperfections that you can't come close to seeing with the naked eye, but even under the loupe it looked great. Had it in office light and then some natural sunlight, couldn't notice the medium fluorescence personally.

The thing is brilliant, the cut is truly amazing, so happy with how it looks and the quality. The thing blasts light through it in amazing ways. Can't wait to see it in the setting.

I could see the faintest hint of the laser etching but realized there was 0 chance of my reading it at 10x.the I remembered that my work (where I went to inspect the stone) has a digital microscope. Luckily got a hold of the IT guy to have him install the software and was able to confirm the number matched (I didn't doubt WF, but also didn't want to just assume it was as the one, my where I've never bought a diamond online which costs enough to buy a used car haha)!

I then typed up a letter to the jewelry store who is having the setting made for me, packed it up, and made it to the post office before they closed. Sent via Priority Registered Mail and have loose stone insurance from Jewelers Mutual just in case.

Time to get ready for the proposal part of the adventure while I wait!

Thanks again for all the help so far!
