Help for the flour bedaubed and desperate - my sugar cookies break teeth...

Thanks so much for your post KTF!! I will try switching to the dough hook to mix the flour next time, also I think I did overcook them, so all this advice is really helping me out as it seems technique is so important here, like with everything in baking.

Ok quick update, thanks to all the great tips and advice such as not overcooking, reducing the flour a tad, not overmixing etc, I produced a PERFECT batch of Tollhouse cookies yesterday that Hubby was craving!! So I am confident that armed with my new knowledge, the batch of sugar cookies I plan to make at the weekend should be a success!
