I greatly appreciate your information and opinion. Thank you for taking your time to help me. A few things have developed since my last post. I sent the seller an email asking why he was asking so little for the stone. He said he expected the bidding to reach much higher. Je said he thought because of the holiday bidding was slow. He insisted that if i had a problem with the stone i could send it back for a full refund.

I called the AGL and asked about the low temp heating. She said that if the stone could be proven unheated the card would have stated none. If it were found to be low temp, that also would have been listed, so it was if they could not prove it either way???

Does that make sense?

She was supposed to look up the file and call me back, I have not yet heard from her...

I will try to send pictures when it finally arrives. I trust my computer more than jewelers at this point.

Thank you all so much for your input, I really appreciate it...

I love this stone, but it will not fit in my setting...I need at least a 6mm stone, .90Ct round + ...

I wish it were just a hair bigger

You said that you are willing to spend up to $500 on a stone right? If I were you I would look on a an actual gemstone cutter''s website people here seem to love Jeff White his website is www.whitesgems.com Daniel Stair is also a good choice I have personally ordered a sapphire from him that ended up being 6.5mm it''s blue with a hint of green and it looks sensational. Best of all the price was well under $ 500 his website is www.customgemstones.com . Just email them and let them know what you stone you are looking for, color carat size, price range ect... and they will find the rough material for you and cut it. That way you get exactly what you want. They also only sell unheated material. You could look at the natual sapphire company you can find some very nice things there aswell. The most important thing is that you get what you want. Unless you really love the way the ebay stone looks then get a refund and use the advice and help here to find the stone that you really want. Unless you want a 1ct unheated perfectly blue sapphire (these can be expensive) you should be able to find a great quality 1ct stone that will fit you setting perfectly. I''ll attach a pic of the sapphire that I got from Jeff so that you can see what I''m talking about. Good Luck!

opps attachment didn''t take here''s my example...

drat! keeps saying my file name isn''t valid but I''ve posted this pic before sorry

You have to resave it under a new name (ie: add a number to the end of the original). If you''ve posted it previously it won''t upload without a new name...

BESIDES, we all LOVE pics!

okay will try to post pic again with new advice

Here''s another way to repost photos you''ve already uploaded to PS. Because they are stored on the PS server, you can access and link to them if you find the file path name.

1) Go to the thread where you originally posted the pic. On a PC, right click the image and choose "Copy file location [or file path]. On a mac, hit Ctrl and click on the image at the same time. Choose "Copy image location."
2) Start your new post. Click on the "insert photo" icon, second from the right with the little mountains on it.
3) When the box opens, paste the image location path into it. When you post the reply, the image will show up.

Historychick, that's a gorgeous stone, btw!

I got the stone this morning. I think it is beautiful. It is very green next to the more common color sapphire at most jewelry stores.

I took it 2 places...

First I went to a VERY high end jeweler. Like our version of Tiffany...He said it was " a very nice stone"...The second stop was to a more creative type, lover of the gem, kind of place... I told them both I was gifted the stone. I was to ashamed to admit to my ebay adventure, and hoped they would give me a more honest opinion, if they thought it was already mine... Looking at the stones side by side, the bluer one was pretty, I liked the contrast against the setting...The greener one, (my stone) had MUCH more sparkle. Through a loupe, I saw a distinct star shape pattern, it was a very even precise shape, not a blob, it was like the edges were darker, it was like a window, but one that was so large that it covered the whole stone, minus the very edges...The window "sill" was a perfect shape not just geometric figures... The cut looked uniform to me. It was not lopsided or uneven in anyway.

It is a color sapphire I have never seen before. Not online or in person. The green is striking, and it sparkles like crazy!

Sadly, he did say there is a very very tiny chip, but he said it did "not effect the stone"

I decided to have it mounted by the artist. He was half the price, and way more creative, plus he was NOT uptight, which was refreshing...

I figure for 150.00, I got a deal, although there is some POTENTIAL low temp heating, the actual value is not affected, and the stone is beautiful...So I am keeping it...

For now...

I contacted custom gems and Jeff White, but from what I understand, there will be quite a wait? So...

I will post picks ASAP...Gotta find a good camera!

Thank you all for your help!

All that matters is if you love it. You do, so you should keep it! Congrats and we want pictures!

Glad that you like the stone, bottom line is that''s all that really matters.

AND the certificate doesn''t say it''s unheated...it says no HIGH temperature heating. It does have low temp heating it appears? I might clarify with AGL on that.

I picked up on this immediately as well. The definition of ''high'' temp is anyone''s guess. At this price range, however, it''s all about how the stone looks. If the color, clarity and size please you, you''ve done well.
Let me try to explain the difference between "low" and "high" temp heat treatment. The vast majority of sapphire is given low heat treatment. It removes cloudiness caused by rutile (titanium) crystals and transforms the titanium into better blue color. This is probably what happens as sapphire is heated by natural processes as it is forming. Some view low heat treatment as merely completing what nature left unfinished. This kind of treatment has been done since at least the 1970s and probably much earlier.

High heat treatment is a no-no. It implies the introduction of a foreign element, beryllium, into the sapphire''s atomic structure which enhances blue color. It is done at almost melting temperature over a period of weeks. It leaves distinctive evidence including alterations of inclusions which can be detected microscopically.

AGL is a very reputable lab. If the stone was unheated the cert would have read: Standard Enhancement: None. Additional Enhancement: None.

If the stone and price please you, enjoy. The price you paid is very reasonable for such a stone.

By the way I am searching for a matching wedding band. I would like it to be 4mm to match the ering...I am having some trouble...Any suggestions?

It''s not recommended to wear a band next to a ring with 3 sided pave as they will rub together and the stones on the e-ring could be damaged or come lose.

If you have another 3 sided pave band next to it, the diamonds will cut each other and the setting up.

Your ring turned out beautifully! I especially like the side view.

CONGRATULATIONS!

What about diamonds just on top??? or a 4mm curved WG band??? Would that work? I cant not have a wedding band can I??? lol...

Very pretty! That setting suits the stone really well. It almost looks like a blue diamond in the first shot, but not "artificial" looking in the way that some irradiated blue stones look.

wow that stone looks great I''m glad that you love it and your setting is beautiful. I''m happy that everything worked out for you

Leon Mege, who does a lot of 3-sided pave doesn''t recommend wearing a w-band on the same finger at all. It''s worth doing a search on PS and seeing what other people with 3 sided pave have done. I know of a few who wear their e-ring alone or moved it to their right hand.

Basically, it comes down to how prepared you are for losing and replacing stones. A plain band or one just with diamonds on the top would be safer, but it is a still a risk. Did your jeweller explain what their policy was on replacing melee if they fall out?

The w-band also needs to be in the same metal and karat as the e-ring as otherwise the softer will eventually be destroyed.

Just wanted to check that you were aware about not putting pave in ultrasonics as it can loosen the stones. I think steam cleaning is okay though.

Sorry, I sound like doom and gloom here, but I''ve seen too many distraught people on PS who haven''t been warned and are then devastated when a stone vanishes. Far better to be prepared for the possibility and know what will minimise the possibility!

Your ring looks lovely - enjoy it and Congratulations!

your ring is lovely.....and i don''t think you need to wear a wedding ring with it.....how about wearing a wedding band on your right hand?
