Hi Folks,
I''m looking at buying a diamond privately that comes with a GIA report. I''ve been reading the guides on this site and HCA factors, but the report sent doesn''t include any crown or pavilion info. Here it is:
Round Brilliant
6.18 - 6.22 x 4.04mm
1.01ct
Depth - 65.2%
Table - 58%
Girdle - Very thick to extremely thick, faceted
Culet - none
Polish - Very Good
Symmetry - Very Good
Clarity - VS2
Colour - F
Fluorescence - Medium Blue

This would be for an engagement ring, most likely tension setting. I''d like something that has a lot of sparkle and brightness. When I put the available info into the HCA, it says the girdle is unusually thick or data is wrong.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Yap, the girdle is way too thick, will looks smaller than similar weight stone. Ideally, a 1 carat stone should have a diameter of around 6.5mm instead of the 6.2mm of this stone, you might as well buy a well 0.9c stone, it will probably look better while still have the same diameter.

Can you list the report number?

Depth percentage is over 63% (something to avoid) as a result of thick girdle. Sounds like one to pass up.

A lot of carat weight is being ''hidden'' in the overly thick girdle... You''re paying for a LOT of carat weight that you''re not benefiting from in terms of a top down perspective... I say pass.

how much for the stone? it better be cheap.

I wouldn''t accept depth greater than 61.8% in a round diamond.
I wouldn''t buy a diamond with the word "extreme" (e.g. girdle extremely thick).

Even without the extra cut information the cert shows enough detail to suggest a pass on the diamond.
