Hello!

I'm currently shopping around for an engagement ring for my lady, but here's the thing: I know she really likes the Birks Amorique ring found here: http://www.birks.com/en/products/BIRKS-AMORIQUE/g1404-820/3000045280.. Unfortunately, Birks is extremely expensive, as they've quoted me 10-12k for nice rocks ranging between 0.7 and 0.8 carats. Because she doesn't have her heart set on it (and doesn't care about brands), I'd like to get something similar from a good online seller. I believe the diamond on there is a cushion or princess cut, but I'm not sure where I could get a rock and setting similar to the Birks Amorique online. What I'm looking for is approximately the following:

0.90 to 0.99 carats
Ideal/excellent cut (would be interested in hearts and arrows, although I'm not sure if it applies to princess/cushions)
F-G-H color
VS1-VS2 clarity
Budget: 7-8K (including setting)

I'm not sure if my budget is realistic, and I know cut is the most important, so I could sacrifice on color and clarity. I just really want something that'll sparkle for her. So my question is this: is there any online store (or any store) that could both sell me a great diamond at a good price and custom make a ring similar to the Birks amorique? I know a lot of people recommend James Allen, Good Old Gold, Brian Gavin and Whiteflash, so I really wanted to get some recommendations as to who could best replicate the Birks Amorique.

Thanking you all in advance for your help. Cheers!

The others posted look like a better match than the shank I posted. But there are other shanks in the Roseco catalog that are broader and flatter at the top that might work.

Here is a nice cushion with arrows, faces up REALLY nicely for a .79, and the price is awesome: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Cushion-cut/0.79-carat-H-color-VS1-clarity-sku-164107

This is a cushion modified brilliant, but kind of on the chunky side, has a bit of an antique feel with the culet: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Cushion-cut/1.01-carat-F-color-VS2-clarity-sku-36009

Another nice modified brilliant: http://www.jamesallen.com/le#!/loose-diamonds/Cushion-cut/1.01-carat-G-color-VS2-clarity-sku-46656

Nice antique style, faces up nice size, nice high crown: http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Cushion-cut/1.02-carat-G-color-VVS2-clarity-sku-145383

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

The Birks ring looks extremely similar to a setting by D Vatche called the x-prong. It was popular a few years ago and I don't see it listed on the Vatche website anymore. A Vatche reseller like Good Old Gold should have more information.

For some reason I can't seem to find a good example of the setting in PS (which is crazy because it was definitely trendy for a while), but it was almost identical to the Tiffany Lucida (there was a rumor going around that it was the same setting). Here's a link to the Lucida to give you an idea of design http://www.tiffany.ca/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10003

I just remembered that Whiteflash has something similar: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/x-prong-diamond-solitaire-for-princess-835.htm...

Looks like Good Old Gold still has the Vatche X-Prong http://www.goodoldgold.com/setting/V101/

Also don't know why I have all of those dots after the Whiteflash link. Lets see if this works http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/x-prong-diamond-solitaire-for-princess-835.htm

I'd get this one that JulieN suggested because while it's not branded "h&a", it's definitely exactly like the brellia cushion from GOG but thousands less! AND it faces up bigger than the .90 brellia stone that was posted. So This stone gets my vote!

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

Hey thanks for all the suggestions, gonna have to look through all these. Do you guys recommend a cushion or a princess cut overall?

Also, I noticed all those x prong settings just aren't as sleek as the Birks, do you think any of these online vendors would be able to make a custom setting that's more in line with the Amorique? Or should I look for a local place that could possibly do it?

Also what is the Princess of Hearts type of diamond on GOG? Are these just high quality Princess cuts? And the Brellia Cushion Hearts & Arrows?

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

I believe Sholdt also has a very similar setting in the Fremont collection. http://www.sholdtdesign.com/Fremont/R430.htm

Where are you located?

Eta: I believe GOG carries sholdt.

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

This is just a modified Lucida setting. Many many vendors do the same thing.
heres a radiant thats a little longer but with a very similar look to that stone.
http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Radiant-cut/1.15-carat-F-color-IF-clarity-sku-23438

or this smaller one
http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/loose-diamonds/Radiant-cut/1.08-carat-G-color-VVS2-clarity-sku-23466

with their lucida type setting
http://www.jamesallen.com/#!/Engagement-Rings/Solitaire/18k-White-Gold-3.3mm-Cross-Prong-Solitaire-Engagement-Ring-item-9012
this one looks big but i think would be more delicate in person

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

I like all three types of stones that I posted above better than a princess cut. And they will look better in that kind of setting, in my opinion.

Brian Gavin also carries Sholdt and a great selection of modern cushions. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.802-g-vs1-cushion-diamond-ags-104061059011

Additional pics of the Sholdt setting: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/khloe-sholdt-14k-white-gold-5338w14

I would go with a cushion over a princess. They are very different looks.

It depends on what you want, but I'm not really a fan of the sharp corners on princesses.

For settings, I'm going to echo the other posters who mentioned Sholdt, the open gallery is a typical design for them, and their settings are very fluid.

The PoH is not a high quality princess; the shape is a square with the edges cut off, and the pavilion is an 8-main brilliant, so it acts more like a round than a princess. The Brellia is a soft cushion shape and the pavilion is also an 8-main. The Brellia and PoH are very similar, mostly just the outline shape is different.

Here is an antique cushion vs the Brellia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx-Yi_zskZo

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

i like the James allen cushion that JulieN showed nice color etc.....

Re: Help! Looking for engagement ring similar to Birks Amori

That setting is pretty easy to make and you got some good recommendations. I think you should contact Steven Kirsch and get a quote - his work would be even more fluid and delicate than the Birks ring. I have compared.

The first diamond JulieN found is simply amazing. It is actually very rare and I don't think I have ever seen something like that in the non-branded market. If it isn't too small for you, I would be jumping on it and snatching it up right away. I would take a cushion over a princess any day .. no second thoughts. You can read more about cushions at https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/cushion-101-my-experience-in-making-a-harry-winston-halo.183473/.......

Since you are talking Birks, I have a feeling you are from Canada. Have you checked out local options for the setting?

Lookie what I found on eBay? It's the ring you found although the damond is a bit smaller but its a E / IF! Pick this up .. get it polished and cleaned from Birks (or else where) .. you will have a ring that looks brand spanking new. I have purchased many second hand rings and it is super easy to make them look brand new!
