PLEASE HELP! How can the tops of the prongs brake off? I did not feel anything did not snag it on anything 3 of the 6 just broke and my 3.25 diamond was gone! I have the ring cleaned and check every 3 months. I am so sick over this, I just cant understand how it could happen. It almost looks like it was cut any thoughts? I was at the airport and looked down and it was gone! Please help me understand.

Thanks

Oh my!!

I''m so sorry to hear that.

What metal was your ring made from?

I hope it was insured!

I''m guessing these were gold prongs and prong sheering occurred here. Not likely to occur if the prongs were platinum. Did you have insurance?

Oh, you must be devastated. It is very sad to lose something so beautiful and so sentimental.

Tell us more about the stone, ring, setting, insurance.

Thanks for the replies
round 3.25 j si1 excellent

Oh Texas Fly Girl. I don''t know what to say except "That sucks so bad" Be pissed, be pissed, be pissed some more. If you aren''t insured, be super, super pissed. Cry. Cry some more. But then breathe. Breathe. Breathe slowly. It is just a ring. You can replace it. It is a not a breathing living human. Breathe again...slowly.

It sounds like you had the ring for a while since you mention having it cleaned and checked regularly. I''m curious what your thought process was in not having insurance on a diamond valued at more than $25K. Every now and then someone posts "should I have insurance" and this is certainly a cautionary tale that proves the wisdom of protection.

I''ve knocked my ring several times on doors, in the car hatch, bathroom cabinets, etc. You aren''t always aware that your hand knocked into something at the time. Platinum is usually far more maleable than gold, which can become brittle upon exposure to chemicals. It does sound like an unusual occurrence.

3 of 6 platinum prongs just broke off suddenly??

The most important question is......Do you have insurance???

I am so sorry

This could be callous but is it possible that this person has insurance and is setting up a fraudulent claim. Between the unlikelihood of platinum prongs sheering, the fact that this person has never posted before and came up with a name that mirrors the story she has told, and the fact that this person has gone out of her way to avoid mentioning whether or not she has insurance.... it just seems skeptical to me. I''m always the skeptic though, so perhaps I shouldn''t even post this. I just have a strong inkling on this one.

^ Interesting theory. Sounds very plausible. Hang on a second while I go get set popcorn...

that''s TERRIBLE.. i''m so sorry.

Texas, I'm sorry. I do hope you have insurance..

Is your hand okay? You must've taken some hit, to shear three prongs off

Were you wearing a wedding band? what kind is that?

I am so sorry to hear this.....Were the prongs adjacent?

Did you drive yourself to the airport? Sounds like the last action you did may have knocked it out? Like grabbing for you luggage...can you remember that? Perhaps it fell into the trunk area or ground around the car.

I feel so sorry for your loss. I know it is a wallop to your emotional state. Not to mention the expense of the stone.

Not sure if this gives you a little bit of hope...but I have lost several stones...and found 4 of of 5....either on my sheets in my bed, or stuck in the weave of the fabric in a chair. We always assume it has to be a strong smacking...with an serious painful injury to our hand...you know something that would make us stop and assess the ring...but in those cases in my experience...it was merely fabric grabbing hold of a prong, breaking it and allowing the stone to fall out.

While in your absence...I would make sure no one adjusts anything and leaves it the way you left it. There is chance that stone is just waiting for your return. Unless you have the time to back track your steps today...is there anyone you can send it to look for you while you are away?

Wish I could be more help and help you search. Perhaps the empathy expressed will help a tad?

My Mom just lost her main stone 2 days ago (unfortunately she is not good about getting her prongs checked).
She found it in the sheets. Check in your bed and in/around the last clothes you took off.

I hope you find it (and if not I hope it was insured...I mean it was 3.25...who wouldn''t insure that?)

Please post side views of the broken and non-broken prongs in the region where the diamond''s girdle should rest in the prongs. We need to see how thin or worn this area is and how the prongs may have become detached...

Do not have insurance

I have only had this ring for 3 years and without thinking I let it expire!

That sucks. Hope you can find it.

eek!! I''d be interested in seeing pictures like Dave (oldminer) suggested. it does sound very unusual what has happened. But with no insurance it doesn''t really matter

i''m so very sorry!!

HI:

My condolences. Sincerely hope you find it. Look in your pockets and purses!

cheers--Sharon

Thanks, I have looked everywhere I am sick over this and I cant believe I let my insurance expire.... I sent it back to the jewlery store in Houston they wanted to see it.

What a terrible loss. I also don''t understand why you wouldn''t have insurance in place. I hope you find the diamond, then insure it!

I''m sorry you didn''t have it insured- I hope you are able to replace without too much issue.

I am so sorry. I lost an earring one time and found it 5 days later and 2 rooms away from where I put them on so I am hoping you will have the same luck. Since the jewelry store wants to see your ring does that mean they will replace the diamond if they agree it was from faulty prongs?
