Hello,
After lurking around the forums for a few months, I decided to actually post my own. I have learned SO MUCH from Pricescope. I am looking for a ruby for my e-ring. 1-2 ct, preferably round but cushion or roundish oval will suffice for the right stone. Heated is fine. I'm thinking we can spend between $1,500 and $3,000 depending on the setting we pick. I am looking at antique-style pavé settings in yellow gold and have read some good advice here. We are on a budget (who isn't) and am thrilled to have discovered Beverly K. We were looking at Tacori but I would rather save a little money for the stone.

I've looked online a lot and am very familiar with Gemfix. His prices seem to fit our budget. I've also read some good reviews or him on here.
It's a bit tricky because I've never really seen many rubies in person. I am in Austin, TX and am pretty sure no one has any inventory sitting around that I can go look at. Every time I call a store that claims to sell rubies on their website, they all tell me the same thing. "Tell us what you want and your budget and we will get some in for you to look at."

So, I guess my questions are:
Does anyone have any strong recommendations for online retailers?
Does anyone know of anyplace in the Austin area where I could actually see some rubies? I could also easily drive to San Antonio and may even be willing to drive to Dallas or Houston.

I'm really hunting for a deal so I can get the most stone for the money.

Thanks so much for all the good info on here!!

I just received my 1 carat (heated) Burma ruby from Gemfix. I'm very pleased with it.

I'm thinking of going to Brian Gavin to get the setting.

I found this guy on facebook. It looks like he does good work. I don't know anyone who has used him. He has an Austin location.

Good luck!

Thanks Txgreeneyes. I get the feeling Gemfix is a good place to order from. I just wish I could see them in person. If you get a chance, post a pic of your ruby. I'd love to see it. Did he send you any additional photos before you bought it? I can't wait to see your final product after you have it set!
