I've had my Fiesta dishes (every color under the rainbow -- except white) for about 13 years now. I don't want to get rid of them, but I would like something more neutral.

One caveat, though -- I don't want to have the gray silverware marks on them. Is that possible? My lighter colored Fiesta has the marks, so I don't use them. My sister has white/cream colored Mikasa dishes, and they have the gray marks, too. It drives her crazy.

So, is it possible to have white/cream colored dishes without the marks?

Please post your suggestions (with a picture!).

I appreciate it, y'all!

~LC

p.s. These would need to be "everyday" dishes. Microwavable, etc.

Okay. So, I''ve LOVED these since they first came out -- Lenox "Chirp," but they''re not white. But, I LOVE them.

Do you think they''d look dated in 5 or 10 years?

I think the chirp is fantastic!

My SIL has the Nantucket Basket pattern (not sure who makes it) and it doesn''t have any silverware makrs (she sues it for everyday)

My everyday dishes are Wedgwood Eternity, they also come in a soft square shape. They are perfect.

Lenox also has a nice everyday white with a wide flat rim that I''ve seen at TJ Maxx for super cheap. Also a bone china which is stronger thinner than other materials.

These are Red Vanilla bone china, I've seen these too and they're nice as well. They're @ overstock currently

Bella,

Thanks for the info. Nantucket Basket is Wedgwood, and that''s one of the brands I''ve been looking at. The basket pattern is so pretty.

cnspotts,

I really, really like these dishes, too. Do yours have gray silverware marks on them? I just wish they made serving pieces for this style. Is it a new pattern? I wonder if they''ll make them??

Thanks for the input!

We have the Jasper Conran (Wedgewood) embossed set - I am super happy with them and it is easy to mix and match with.\

I have white dishes from Pier One and World market and I don't see any gray marks. They are about 6 years old.

I have these dishes. I love how clean and modern they look.

Those are pretty! Sleek and classic. Good to know about the marks, too. Thanks, Tacori!

Are you talking about marks that are left from silverware use? No, that hasn''t happened to the these but it did happen to stoneware that I had, drove me nuts. There are a few serving pieces but not many, I decided that just about anything will go with them tho.

Thanks again for the response. Yes, I''m talking about the silverware marks. I have them on my light colored Fiesta, and it drives me batty, too.

What do y''all think about the Chirp? Do you think it will be dated in a few years? Should I even care?

Fiesta has been around forever, and it doesn''t seem to go out of style -- maybe out of favor -- but not out of style.

I just keep thinking about my mother''s "desert rose" dishes. Agh. They were apparently all the rage when she got them, but now, ugh, they look so old fashioned! Not timeless.

I guess that''s what I''m looking for -- timeless.

This is a hard decision, b/c I''m going to have to live with it for a long time. It''s also expensive!

~LC

They have the Wedgwood eternity at my TJMaxx right now for super cheap. I almost got some as spares. I use a soid white Wedgewood bone china for everyday, and have done so for about two years. I like the way food looks on solid white. I became seriously interested in cooking and then decided I had to have dishes to showcase the food.
As for the birds, you could get a few plates to mix and match with your solid white, but I don''t see that set as having staying power. Then again, if the price is right , it is darling, so just get it and enjoy!
The only thing I know I won''t buy ever again is stoneware. It is just too heavy to lift. Also, a friend of mine who makes the best tea (She is from Norfolk, England) told me that anything but bone china changes the taste of excellent tea, in her opinion.

I love how they are rimless. Pier One used to sell the exact same design but not sure if they do anymore. Good to know World Market still does.

I''ve found a couple of patterns that I really like. The first one is Wedgwood "white." The second is Villeroy and Boch "New Cottage."

Question -- the Wedgwood is "bone china," and the V&B is "porcelain." Is one better than the other? I don''t have a clue -- even after I googled it. The only real difference I could find is that bone china is "whiter."

Thanks again for your help! I want to make the right decision!

~LC

Here''s the Wedgwood "white" pattern. I really like this one, but I wish I could find a store that carries it in person.

WWWhite.jpg

And here''s the V&B "new cottage." The dinner plates come in round or a rounded-off square shape. Also, the mugs and bowls have kind of an oval shape to them. Quite unexpected, but neat.

There is a product called "Nevr-Dull" that I use to take the silverware marks off my dishes. I''ve used it for years. It is sold for other uses, but a china wares website used to sell it.

Here''s the link: http://www.nevrdull.com/

All I know is I have stoneware that is over 25 years old, and the marks come off with this stuff.

Hope this helps.

We have these white dishes from BB&B. I love them, they''re fine china, and they don''t have any marks in them from our silverware. They''re also super inexpensive, only $80 for four place settings. We bought 12, and mix them in with our fine china when we entertain.

We''ve been using them for nearly two years now, and I think they''re just lovely. They look fabulous with our hand potted dishes, too.

They''re thin but not too thin, and they''re just really elegant IRL.

LibraryC.,

I've got the Wedgwood White. I got 11 plates on Ebay for about $10 each. Perhaps they are discontinued, since you cannot find them?

Yes, they are very, very white bone china. You don't realize how white they are until you put something against them that you think is white. Here are my white bowls, bought for $4 each at TJMaxx. They are marked" Wedgwood Housewares Group Fine china"; not "Bone China "as the plates are. You can see the difference in quality/color in the photo.

The difference is not as pronounced in real life. You don't even notice they don't match.

You asked about porcelain. French porcelain is very pretty; look up Apilco, I believe it is called and another one I can't recall now, starts with a "P"
on the Wms. Sonoma site. You need to go into their store to handle it.
Hope this photo helps.

Thanks LS! I will definitely check into this product. How nice it would be.

Ooh! I don''t think it''s been discontinued, and to be honest, I haven''t looked everywhere, yet. I can order it online from a couple of places. I just wanted to see it in person first.

We have the Apilco from Williams Sonoma. It''s pricey, but we have had it for about 9 years now and I love it as much now as the day we got it. Absolutely no problems with it with daily use. No chips, marks, nothing. It''s so classic too, I don''t think it would go out of style. I see now they have a couple of more interesting styles in the same brand. Ours are just the plain ones and I do really recommend them!

Our white dishes are the Crate and Barrel Staccato. I love them, and they don''t have any silverware marks so far. We''ve been using them nonstop for almost a year.

Mine are the Nantucket style from World Market and we''ve had them a long time and they do have the silverware marks on them. Now that the kids are a bit older, it''s time to replace them!

Oh! I really, really like these! The price is good, too. I also like how there are lots of accessory pieces. Hmm... It seems like a trip to Crate and Barrel is in store for me.

Thanks again, everyone!

These are lovely! Good choice - I hope you find them for a good price

The Apilco porcelain (available at WS) is really nice. That''s what we''re registered for, but we don''t have it yet so I can''t comment on gray marks.

I should have said our dishes are "bone" china, not "fine" china, in my last post. Sorry!
