And BTW, I spent so much on my photos which were worth it b/c I actually look decent in the pix...but I could have gone crazy and to be honest, they album sits in a dusty box.

lol, sorry -- paul is #1.

dont tell me that about the wedding pics! my mom said the same thing. damn! makes it so much harder to rationalize!

just my two cents, don''t skimp on the pictures. choose the best photographer that you like and can afford. these pictures last a life time.

i spent a small fortune (erm...not so small!) on my photographer and the pictures were worth every darn penny. even if the album eventually sits on a shelf collecting dust, for the past two months i have flipped through the proofs, laughed, cried and basically just enjoyed living that day over and over again.

i agree--photography will be one of our biggest splurges. problem is, even the less expensive guy is a splurge! ah, it''s so tough to have expensive taste.

Although both photographers are FAB, I LOOOVE Barnetts photos!!! I love the warmth that seems to come from film photography that just is almost impossible to reproduce with digital. I had to make the same choice between a film photgrapher (www.nhanphotography) and digital photographer(www.jroephotography.com), and ended up going with the digital for its flexibility, ease of retouching (key for me!) and the digital proofs with release for prints (money saving). Although I have to say, if the film photographer I was talking to did work like Barnett, I would have been TORN!!! My 2 cents is go with your gut and that photography is where you should splurge in your budget. A gorgeous wedding is almost wasted if you can''t capture it forever so you can relive it through photos.

I think that #1''s pictures have more of a personal feel to them, whereas #2''s pictures have more of an artsy/magazine feel to them. So it just depends on your personality - which way would you prefer to have your memories captured. I vote for #1 but that''s my personality. However, not having the negatives until way later and having to scan them into the computer thing would really bother me. So I guess in terms of the actual photos I like #1 better but I don''t know if I would choose him because of the negatives deal. :)

I too like the first one better. Their style is different, the first one is photojournalistic, the second has some really interesting shots and great compositions but most of his pictures are posed. Some people prefer that but if you want the pictures to capture more of the wedding day as it unfolds, I think the first guy would do a better job. I''d meet with both though since they would have a lot more pictures to show you so you can have a better idea. If you can afford it, I wouldn''t let the budget be your main deciding factor; photos are really worth splurging for (in my opinion).

I definitely agree that one shouldn't skimp on the photog...but NEITHER of these guys is anywhere CLOSE to skimping LOL.
My gutt says #1. But #2 pix are so cool.

BUT that is such a small sample of #2's work.

OK.
Step #1- If money was NOT an issue- who would you pick.
Step #2- If you thought of #1, decide if $1500 is enough for you to stress and second guess yourself. It's not like you and hubby are going to go broke from this. Just remember that while you say you'll skimp somewhere else to make up for it...you won't LOL.

Face the facts kid. You've good taste and expensive taste. Join the club, it sucks LOL

LOL! you are so right. i think it''s genetic or something.

you hit the nail on the head, MMM-- i wish i could rationalize it by saying, well, i dont want to skimp, but neither qualifies as skimping unfortunately. sigh. if $$$ was no object we''d pick paul. i''m going to try to talk darling FI into it this weekend. im sure i''ll be able to, but he''s going to think this is a pattern -- i did this same thing when we were picking a reception spot.

Well, I think it's good that you are establishing a pattern of such behavior now

. I waited too long and then after being married, he didn't take it as well as I thought he would. Much harder to train them at that point.

Not just the reception spot- rememberthe original ering budget? LOLOLOL. Poor guy didn't know what hit him :)

LOL -- very true, very true. This is a complete pattern of behavior with me: I set a budget of $x, and then I get so into researching all of the different options, and I see all of the wonderful things that are out there, and then the next thing you know my heart is set on $x times four. sigh. poor FI.

in related news: we decided to book paul (photog #1) today! YAY!

i am beyond thrilled (and beyond broke, now.) not that this decision is at all a surprise to all of you who "know" me -- I just adored paul (not only his work, but also his personality) and somehow i knew we''d end up with him in the end. i really do appreciate everyone''s input/advice along the way, however!

Whoo hoo -- so now that the photographer decision is made (THAT only took 6 weeks

) i get to start thinking about colors/themes and invites! Poor FI again!

Yay! Congrats on making the decision! I really like his pictures, although you really couldn''t have lost with either of them!

aaaw,

love the baby bottom''spics!

In one of the wedding photo''s of paul, is that Travis of Blink-182?

Sorry if I'm late here, I've been otherwise occupied!!

Both are amazing, it just depends on the style you want. Barnett is a little more fun, kinda funky, jazzy. Ventana is more classic and absolutely nails the emotions. I don't think you could go wrong with either one! However, you said you personally liked one better than the other... I went with my gut instincts for our wedding vendors, and it was absolutely perfect, so maybe you should go with the one you're most comfortable with. They will be with you constantly on the most personal day of your life.

ETA: Yup, I was late - congrats on booking your photographer!!!
