I am buying one of these this weekend. I have 2 choices and can't decide between the 2. Here's why:

Transtional diamond going in the center
I want to enhance the stone
get more finger coverage (both do that)

Plain cushion halo:
Not sure if the plain one is "too" plain; flat from the side, but seems to notice diamond more(?)
My stone is 1/100th of a mm off from the one that is on my finger, so it should look the same on me
can order in platinum, is this more solid for stones?? also won't yellow?

Antique setting
It's white gold; lady said it won't yellow and it won't scratch and it's stronger than platinum to hold the stones; they dont do it in plat
I like the shape as it is interesting w/ corners
Antique style goes with my antique diamond
BUT does it take over the diamond? Will you still see the stone or will it look like a cocktail ring?

Please vote and would love to hear why you voted (unless you want to remain anonymous) :)

They are both lovely settings. It's hard to choose between them. They are different looks. I chose the halo because I have one but I'd be happy to wear either ring :))

Will either setting allow a band to sit flush against it? I'd vote for that one.

All other things being equal, I'd prefer platinum. I don't know if I believe that the WG won't yellow.

If it was me the lack of plat on the antique would be the deal breaker bec I cannot wear gold or white gold so that would rule it out! Either looks nice to me though.

Since you're putting in a transitional stone, definitely the antique setting!

I'd go with the antique setting. I think it's lovely!

I prefer the antique setting...

I prefer platinum so I would go with that halo.

Keep voting! More opinions!
Thanks for writing and voting. I could get a flush band with the halo split shank one, but wouldn't because i have so many diamond bands and not sure if i want a flush fit, you know?

Do you think the antique one would look more "blended in" and cocktail-ringish vs the halo which might show off the stone more??
What do you think??

I think the antique one is prettier and more unique. Do you have more photos?

I think the antique one would blend in, and the halo might show off the stone more BUT I think your stone might match the antique setting more. maybe the word isn't that the antique one would blend in, but would be highly complementary and show off a more cohesive product!

Do you have more photo's of the antique setting? For me the antique setting is more unique, but it might be a bit more overwhelming for your stone. It's hard to judge based on this one photo.

Ooops

It is very hard to appreciate the details from the pictures that you posted. Also, why are you limiting yourself to these 2 choices? Of are these
2 your very favorites

Here are 2 profile shots. I love the halo profile and I don't like the profile of the antique one as it is very flat.

Help!

What do you mean "flat"? Personally, I like it better because it has more character. But it seems you like the pain halo better so go with that.

For some reason your hand suggests to me modern, so I'll go the halo. I think older cuts can look great in more modern settings (that are afterall just settings borrowed and based on ideas from the past anyway!) a bit the way older houses can look great when a renovation combines the old with some fresh modern features.

I feel the same as polished - for some reason, the split-shank seems a bit more "you" - and as much as I like antique and vintage pieces, the gallery of the vintage one seems kind of busy and I think your diamond might get a bit lost in the halo. I actually really like the somewhat cleaner lines of the split shank.

Thanks Junebug and Polished. I think I agree with you guys it suits my hand better I don't want a cocktaily look you know? I love the profile on the halo split shank too. Now the question is - flush band for more $ or use the one I have that matches pretty well or I could get a circle bezel milligrain band for contrast like mysop04?????

I have no idea if this is the right size for you, but did you see this band on DB already? http://diamondbistro.com/category/214/Eternity-Rings/listings/36663/Bezel-Set-125ct-VS-F-Platinum-Diamond-Band.html

THANKS I love it, yes that is like mysop04's... my size would be 6.75 i think.... Thanks for thinking of me!

I also think the split shank setting looks lovely on you and I like the way it looks with your current band. I would stick with that one!

THanks! So any ideas for a band? circles? or just use what i have :)

Why don't you wait until you have your ring reset and then go try on a variety of bands to see what you like? I'd use the band you have for now.

That's a good idea. I think I will order the platinum - even though it's more $ because I don't want it to ever turn yellowish

PS: QUESTION:
When I order the setting, should I have them scale it down to fit my diamond, in other words, the halo might be a bit smaller? The jeweler said that my diamond was only 1/100ths of a mm smaller than the diamond currently set in the setting I tried on and that it should look pretty much just like it.

My question is: do i tell them to make it exactly to the measurements I tried on? ?? I know he is getting my diamond measurements to fit exactly made to the stone/setting.

UH OH I am leaning toward the antique one now - ;) :twirl: :twirl: :twirl:

For me, the antique one is a no brainer. It's a lot prettier to me and far more unique.

You didn't acknowledge my question when I first asked, but I felt the need to repeat it because it sounds like you are very indecisive about these choices.
I will admit that I voted neither on the poll because although I think both are lovely options, I don't know either will ultimately make you happy, given that you want your stone to be the star. Maybe I read it wrong? What are your goals in this reset?
