Hi there. I’m currently looking to purchase this cushion. https://loupe360.com/diamond/LG636425072/video/500/500

Carat: 1.95
Colour: F
Clarity: VVS2
LxWxD: 7.30mm X 7.29mm X 4.88mm
Table : 67%
Depth: 66.9%
Fluorescence: None

Hoping to see if the experts here can spot any red flags with this diamond. The only thing concerning I can tell from the online videos and report is that the table % seems high for what’s been regarded as the “ideal” range. I tried asking for ASET images but the seller declined.

Also out of curiosity, aside from the obvious reputation of BG/JP diamonds, is there a significant performance difference between these two cuts? I noticed that both BG and JP H&A cushions are cut the same way while the non-branded ones are cut slightly different.

Just curious if you’re using table range values for round stones or for H&A cushions. Each cut has its own specifications. Fancy cuts do not have the parameters are round brilliants, and fancies are much harder to assess by stats alone.

Your pick looks great to me, but I’m not a fancy experts. I don’t see blue nuance or obvious graining.

How exciting! Good luck!

Appreciate you taking the time to reply! What I got from reading on PS and other sites, is to stick with a table in the mid 50s for cushions. I’m not sure if there’s a way to reverse engineer BG’s measurements for the H&A cut because I believe their tables are calculated based on the longest diagonal of the cushion rather than width.

Full disclosure that I know relatively little about the cushion cut, but I found the measurements for Brian Gavin's H&A cushion cut on their website here. As far as I can tell, the tables are calculated based on the tip-to-tip and edge-to-edge of the diamond, which is reportedly standard gemological practice, at least at AGS which was acquired by GIA last year. I'm sure an expert would be able to weigh in on if that is a standard method of measurement used by GIA and GCAL. If so, that would greatly simply your search I think!

Also, JannPaul's Cushion 8 and Brian Gavin's H&A cushion both have 57 facets but are indeed different designs. I retrieved their respective patents filed with the USPTO for you and screenshotted their table and pavilion facet structures.

Lastly, fun fact, JannPaul's Cushion 8 and the Cushion Brellia are different from each other too. Oddly, I couldn't find the latter's patent, but I'll link you their respective GCAL reports because you can see how they differ in light leakage in the brilliance image and, if you really pay attention, also in their optical symmetry image (which is basically a slightly more complicated ASET.)

GCAL: JannPaul Cushion 8

GCAL: Cushion Brellia

Good luck in your search!

Hi @Shiyui, wow thanks for sharing this. Very informative and interesting. I took a look at Jaanpaul’s website and it looks like Cushion 8 and Brellia are used interchangeably. Interesting that GCAL calls one of them a rounded corner square brilliant rather than a cushion.
