Okay found a buyer for my 2.05 I-J s1 uncertified studs

I have a 10,000 budget for my new studs (stones only). After listening to y''all I know I have to go ideal for the cut. But will you help me pick out a pair.

questions.

1. Should I find individual stones and put them together myself from eretailer or
2. use existing e vendors to select for me.

my dream would be to get 2.22 total carat weight.

3. finally there are a pair on ebay that I want she even told me I could speak to her jeweler as her stones aren't certified http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIAMOND-STUD-EARRINGS-OVER-2-1-2-CARATS-12-500-00-14KT-WHITE-GOLD-/150928697453?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D4991407403692824100%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D150928697453%26

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

I must have missed something but why do you want to go from 2.05 tcw to 2.11 tcw? It is not a big difference.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

I want certified stones. I am not happy with the brillance and color and clarity of my stones. I want something that I can be proud to hand down to my children. I have been offered $2,000 by four different jewelers for earrings that I paid $7,000 for. So I learned a hard lesson. So now I will buy beautiful ideal cut certified stones. I just want a little bigger just to justify spending all this money.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

If you want certified stones... don't buy the pair on ebay. One of the stones looks really, really included to me.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

For me, let the vendor select it is the best way.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

What i have learned on these forums about the resale of diamonds.... it is always the case that we, as consumers are going to pay retail prices and when we are going to sell them, we are going to get wholesale prices ( ie lower than half of what we originally paid). I am sure this will work for the certified and non certified stones, but of course, GIA certified stones may get a little more.

I agree with what has been said above about sourcing matched pairs: get the vendor to match them for you. I think WF and BGD have sections on their website that specifically do this. Vendors have access to lots more diamonds than what you or i can search on the web for in our life time. However, some ppl like to do their own searches. It really depends on what you would like to do.

happy hunting!!!!
woo hoo!

ETA- spelling.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

I thought so also plus if the appraisal says SI3 it means I1 correct

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

You guys are right ....I am just trying to maximize the most of my 10,000. So the hunt continues

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

Well, I think some of us match more precisely that some vendors do! But we can suggest a few pairs for you IF we can find anything that will fit your budget. We may not be able to do it from a vendor with in-house stones, so you may have to let a vendor call in stones and try to match a pair. But I will take a look.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

Thanks Diamond seeker I am going to keep watching and watching. But I think I should contact WF, JA and have them look. As I really want to go a little bigger than 2.05 . I kinda want my cake and eat it too lol...I think bottom line need to come up with a little more cash or wait for valentine's discount codes. Who knows. also spying these on ebay ending today. As I get anty

thanks for your help. Will you keep looking for me. I have spent hours and hours looking at stones I keep going back to B2c as they seem to be the least expensive and I asked if I could view the stones in their office in NYC since I live close.

Thanks diamondseeker waiting for call from Bob of WF to see if he can help me.

Heididl - I would have responded to your thread earlier, but I had done some poking around and wasn't able to find a pair of stones that met both your size and price parameters. It looks like these would be really nice, if you can stretch your budget to get them. Maybe you could eke out some additional weight if you get J's?

I know these will be a bit smaller than what you had before, which must be a bit of a disappointment, but I suspect their performance will more than make up for it. My earrings are H SI1, as graded by a "GIA gemnologist," but un- certified. I like them and wear them a lot. In fact, I liked them enough that I wanted to buy something similar for my SIL (long story), but with a smaller budget. Fortunately about the same time a PS'er listed a pair of certified, Whiteflash studs on diamondbistro that I could afford. They were the same size as mine, J SI1, and scored very well on the HCA. My studs are a very reasonable quality but the WF studs definitely out-performed them, and they looked just as white. And - my SIL loves them! I hope you'll see the difference when you get your new studs too!

spoke to Bob these are the earrings he suggested smaller than my current ones and 2,000 over budget. But i guess that I have to decide to spend 10,000 just to have certified ideal stones?????

thoughts????

Ha! That is the exact pair I posted!

I already looked on James Allen and just didn't see a pair that I loved in the I SI range. Of course, with WF you get a great upgrade policy, but if you are 100% sure they are your final pair, then you could consider buying stones without that kind of upgrade policy. You could see what B2C can come up with and have them send you photos and idealscope images to post here before going to see them.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

I might just contace b2c....Bob was so nice and he said on the ear I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 1.00 and 1.10. again it just kills me to spend 12,000 on gorgous earrings when I blew $7,000 on the ones in my ears. If I never found price scope or wondered into Tiffany I wouldn't know the differenct but the WF studs are probably so far superior in flash.

One more question I saw several WF studs 1.13 and Bob said that the crown angle made the inferior to the ones he suggested. I have read the ideal format for round stones a million times and I am keeping the following in front of my while viewing stones is this all I should be looking for. I am not familiar with the formula everyone talks about "score"

Table : 53-58
Depth 58-62.3
crown angle 34-35 14.2 % - 16.2%
girdle 2.29 thin to medium
pavilion angle 40.6 - 41

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

You must have been looking at virtual stones because I think those two I stones were the only WF cut stones in the I SI and size you are looking for.

Re: Help me select my new studs I would like between 2.11-2.

The "score" pople are referring to is the Holloway Cut Advisor (HCA) score:

https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

You just enter the angles, percentages etc. for a modern round brilliant (MRB) diamond you're considering and run the program. Although there is some dissension, an HCA of 2 or less is generally considered ideally cut and likely to provide very good light return. The HCA addresses only one aspect of cut, however - the certification will also tell you about the stone's symmetry, and for an SI1 and above stone, you might also want to ask whether a stone is "eye clean."

The HCA is a tool, and some would argue that it's an imperfect tool for a variety of reasons - mostly that some stones or angle combinations that would score poorly with the HCA can also produce beautiful results. Nonetheless, the HCA has helped many PS'ers find beautiful MRB's.
