What's your criteria for buying a diamond? Are you trying to maximize size based on your budget? If so, you could relax your color and clarity criteria slightly and still remain in the colorless and eye-clean category. This would allow you to get a larger stone, with equal performance.

If it's a choice between the 3, right off the bat I would eliminate the 3rd choice (http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1527083.asp) as the hearts and arrow pattern isn't ideal (the hearts bleed into the arrows). Between the two remaining, I would go with the James Allen diamond just because the porportions are slightly better. And, there is a real image of the diamond online.

I Want a good quality diamond, I mean a with d - e or f and vs1 to if.... In size I was thinking about a .35 to .38 I want to spend a maximum of $1000 on the diamond ... The ring setting I want to use is this one.... http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/14k-white-gold-thin-french-cut-pave-set-diamond-engagement-ring-17158w14.html

This setting on size 5... My girlfriend ha thin hands... That's what I want a good quality diamond, and a .35 to .38 size Or what do u think my friends??

Quality is really a "relative" notion when it comes to diamond buying. Getting a D/E/F colored diamond is great on paper, but it's not something your girlfriend will really be able to tell the difference with (unless she carries colored grading stones in her pocket). She would not be able to tell a F colored stone from a H colored stone for instance. So it really depends on where you want to spend your money.

In terms of clarity, same thing applies. You can get a very good stone with VS1 so really no need to go with IF if you're on a budget. Between VS1 (or even VS2) and IF, the inclusions are so small that you'd have a hard time picking them out even WITH a loupe. So, to the naked eye, getting an IF would really be putting your money somewhere where you can't appreciate it. The only exception to that is if your girlfriend is a big bragger and would be the type to tell all her friends she got an IF. Though even that would be short lived ;)

Because your ring will have other diamonds, perhaps up the color a little. Say "H" color. This will make it stand out from the smaller diamonds. If you stick with VS1/2, you should be able to find something well within your budget (if not cheaper) that is of great quality.

Good luck!

Hi there- as yenmedia pointed out, you first have to decide what you mean by quality. I think a lot of people who are used to dealing with stores or may only have experience with a store refer to quality in terms of color and clarity, as you are doing.

However, having a D/E/F and IF/VVS1 isn't going to insure the diamond is sparkly. That comes from how well it is cut (proportioned). For me, that is the first part of the "quality" package I seek, and not color or clarity.

For a stone in the size range you are looking at, you could easily go down to SI1 and probably H in color. You aren't going to be able to tell the difference unless you carry a set of master stones around between an E and an H on the hand (unless you or she are super color sensitive). As for clarity, as was pointed out, you'd be hard pressed to find the inclusions at that size even with a loupe. However, this opinion also reflects my personal opinion that salespeople selling IF diamonds is mostly hype. An IF diamond is IF at 10x magnification and that is how it is graded. If you magnified stronger, there'd probably be inclusions or some sort. It's like paying for an illusion, IMO. On top of that, a diamond can also be scratched or damaged on the surface, so you might still end up with a surface inclusion of some sort (more illusion) thereby again undoing your attempt at flawlessness.

If it were me, I'd search for G VS2 or SI1 down to H SI1 to the maximum you have alloted for it. You are a PS member so should see a pricescope discount when you click through to these.
