Hello PSers,

I bought a bow tie brooch a while back, but I haven’t worn it much since I don’t typically wear brooches. A few months ago, I decided to convert it into a necklace so I could get more use out of it. I currently have two ideas in mind but couldn’t decide which one I should go with. I’d appreciate your advice!

Design 1: add this bow tie and another antique pendant piece together. One concern is that the diamonds on the two pieces have different brightness. As you can see from the video, the bow tie uses old cut diamonds, while the other one uses rose cuts which are dimmer.

Design 2: I also have two loose diamonds. All together they will make a typical bow tie design.

What do you think? Which one is the winner? Or do you have different ideas?

If the winner would be option 2, what setting would be a good fit for this design?

I added a chain in the video but do you have other suggestions on the chain selection?

Oh so many questions… thank you again for your help! I’m excited to move forward with this project!

And happy new year!

Oooh I love both, but the second with the loose diamonds is gorgeous! That one is my favourite. I think the setting should have a little space between all three though, so as to allow the eye to appreciate all three elements better.

I like the idea of a thicker diamond cut chain instead of the one that you used in the video, and my personal preference is WG or plat.

Or I would put the pendant on a DBTY, so that there’s some sparkle around the neck as well.

I do have an “out of left field” suggestion - if you’ve seen the Graff bow tennis necklace, where the bow is off centre, I think it would be amazing if you could get the back of the pendant adjusted in such a way that you could wear it off centre on a tennis necklace (if you have one or plan to get one). Imo this would be an AMAZING “chain” for the pendant if it were possible!

Oh wow! What a fun project!

I voted for #2. I think it is just stunning. But they are both very pretty! I can't wait to see what you do here!

I’d do both seeing as they are so different in style. You could get the jeweller to make a bale fitting so either pendant can be used.

Love this idea! And if the attachment fitting on the bow is hidden, you could also wear the bow alone.

What a fun project!

I too voted for Design #2.

However, I would set the bow tie brooch the other way up as I prefer my bow ties with the larger loops on the top, if you know what I mean.

Throwing in a couple of curve balls ...

How about re-setting as a ring as I believe it would be great as a cocktail ring?

And my first thought when I saw it - a bangle bracelet? I would set it on a curved bar on the top to minimise turning/ending up at the bottom of my wrist.

Looking forward to seeing the finished article.

DK :))

Hi Ladies! I’m so excited to hear all of your advice—so many great ideas!
@AllAboardTheBlingTrain, thank you for the chain talk! I’ve definitely been considering the other chains as well. The tennis necklace would be a perfect match, though it might be a little too "fancy" for my current lifestyle. I’m also a fan of the diamond cut style and, believe it or not, I’m thinking of that as an option too! The triple beaded chain I showed in the videos is actually a choker style. I can picture a bow tie with it, but I’m not sure if the pendant’s weight might cause it to flip over easily.
@Bron357 @RMOO You ladies are so inspiring! I love the idea of detachable pendants! I could do the bow tie on its own, with the two loose diamonds, or with the other pendant—such a fun way to mix and match! I’m curious, do you think David Klass would be able to create a piece like this, or should I be exploring other vendors as well?
@dk168 I’ve been going back and forth on which side of the bow tie should be up too—lol! I can totally envision it as a ring or a bracelet as well. The only reason I leaned towards converting it into a necklace is because I can see myself wearing it more that way. The bow tie is so petite, though, it could easily be transformed into all kinds of fun pieces!
@Heathcat24 and everyone who voted, thank you so much to help me make up my mind on the design! I am surprised (but very happy) that all votes went to #2!

Ladies, if you don’t mind, I’d love your advice on how to set the two loose diamonds. I’m envisioning something "vintage-ish," but I’m still undecided. What do you think about a collet setting with blackened gold? Do you think it’s too far back in time compared to the style of the bow tie, or could it work?

Again, thank you so much for your help! Happy new year!

Number 2 as well! I would consider bezels for the two loose diamonds.

I would do very delicate milgrain bezels for the dangle diamonds in a white metal.
