Help needed with EC reset

I've been wanting to reset my EC for a few years now. I'm finally taking the plunge. My current setting is half bezel and very sturdy. Not that the kids are a little older and I no longer have large animals (horses) I think I'm ready for something daintier.

I've been emailing back and forth with Victor Canera over different options for my stone. I love french cuts so I'm trying to incorporate those into the setting. The two settings that I'm looking at are

The Anya Solitaire

and the Sophia solitaire

Victor stated that either of these would work for my stone. My stone however is not as large as these two stones that are shown so the proportions will be different. I think his preference for my stone would be the Anya. Although I think I prefer the Sophia for finger coverage and the slightly larger french cuts.

My EC is 1.32, F, SI1 and the ratio is 1.48.

I would love PS'ers opinions on which setting you think would be better. :twirl:

Ok...obviously my pictures didn't work...let me try again.

Oh fun reset! I actually prefer the Sophia as a whole but for some reason just dont' love it with an EC in my mind. I think it is gorgeous with cushions, RB and anything in between, but step cuts or more boxy diamonds just doesn't seem to flow as well in my personal opinion. I would actually visually prefer the Anya setting with your diamond. However, you can never go wrong with VC. And on that note when I just did my recent reset with him he made a few suggestions that I decided against and right now I'm kicking myself for it. He has a great eye so if he is leaning one way- unless you hate it- I would probably go with it.

VC has a great eye for proportions so I would seriously consider his suggestions!

+1 I would go with Victor's recommendation. I have seen a ring with a large emerald cut with a setting similar to the Sophia (I think made by someone else), but I am just not sure it will work with a stone this size.

I just found that one and it is a 3.77 ct which most of us are not so fortunate to have! But it is gorgeous....

My vote is for the Sophia, I love that ring.

Thanks everyone. DiamondSeeker, thanks for posting that link. That ring was my original inspiration.

I love the Anya as well. My concern is the thin band. I'm going from a very thick band, I'm not sure if the Anya would be too thin for me. Victor sent me some drawings that I cut out to try on for size on my finger. I'll take some pictures of those to see what everyone thinks.

Thanks everyone! I had no idea how difficult this would be.

What do you think of the width if the Anya band? I apologize for the wrinkly dry fingers! :)

Have you thought about carre cuts as another option? I think they look great w/ emerald cuts in general.

Oh, I so agree! I like french cuts more with antique cushions and carre cuts with emerald cuts.

I do think I like the wider Sophia band seeing the mock-ups.

I'll have to look into carre cuts. I don't know that I've seen that cut before...thanks for the suggestion.

I think the mockup helps show finger coverage but I think it can be deceiving not having the dimension. That's why I'm having such a difficult time with this.

Definitely a great problem to have though!

That would be stunning! One of my all time favorite PS pieces is LTP's carre eternity. Classic but different- I think the Anya would be beautiful with Carre cuts.

Another vote for the Sophia! That setting would be stunning with your center stone

I remember how everyone says a thinner band makes the stone look bigger but in this case, the Sophia wins hands down. It looks SO much bigger whereas the Anya makes the EC look small. I would also do a carre or french cut accent stones to accentuate the clean long lines of the EC. What is the mm measurement of your EC? 1.3 ct can have so many different sizes due to the cut. I presume 7 x 5 mm?

Chrono, yes the EC measures 7.49mm x5.06mm.

There's just something about the Sophia setting with the french cuts that I'm totally drooling over. I've also been mulling over trying to purchase one of VC's cushion cuts and save up for the setting...just do it in 2 steps.

ACK! So much to think about!

Thanks for all the input. I tried to take a step back yesterday because this was driving me crazy. I think i'm going to go with the Sophia but I'm going to give myself some time to think about it...want to make sure that I'm making the right decision for me. :loopy:

My preference is the sophia - it still has a gentle taper that you are used to with your 3 stone, but it is still finer than what you have. For me, it would be too much of a change to go to the Anya --- but then again - - you *are* looking for a change!

But Sophia gets my vote, especially if you can get carre diamonds on the sides!! YUMMMY!!!!

Just wanted to post an update:

I decided to go with the Sophia using high dome french cuts. I sent the ring yesterday (I was a nervous wreck) as well as the deposit. Now the waiting begins!!!

Thanks to everyone for their help. I'll be sure to post pictures when I get the finished ring!

Its gonna be a knock out ring, IDtoTX!! I think that combination, following the Sophia design, is INCREDIBLE!! Very elegant and its going to be stunning!!!

Very excited for you!

I am so excited for you to get such a wonderful ring and I am so excited for us PSers to be able to share your excitement and see such a wonderful ring being made.

Oh my gosh it's going to be gorgeous, lucky you!! Can't wait to see it!
