Help please! Advice on Tiffany Soleste?

I think a Tiffany Soleste at 0.70 with the double halo will look amazing!

If Tiffany is what you really want, then you go for it girl! And it does sound as if that's what you really want. If I won the lottery, I'd buy a Tiffany ribbon ring and a Legacy ring, both with about 0.70 centres, and I wouldn't consider replicas. If you've got the money, and you will feel really special in Tiffany, then DO IT!

I understand where you're coming from. The other day, I happened to prick myself with a needle and the blood that came out was Tiffany blue!

Thank you! :) I appreciate the support! Very excited to see it in person. I've seen youtube videos of .5s and one of a .6 and I wanted to cry. It's just amazing

Smith--just a chime in for a FYI, for those who do have double halos they're actually not replicas, some people may find that to be a touchy word when in used reference to a double halo ring. A replica would be stamped with a Tiffany name on the inside etc. but not made or purchased from Tiffany.

Just for example, my double halo ring is set lower, 3/4 pave as opposed to half, I had a more delicate style of pave done, my two halos melt into each other so no line of metal between the two etc. I could go on and on

Calling it a replica would be like calling VC's Emilya Halo a replica of the Harry Winston. Same with ERD's version and VC's Anne Marie version. It's a double halo style. It's comparable to calling Gucci's Boston bag a replica of the Louis Vuitton Speedy, when there is actually different qualities about both, although a similar style/structure! :) We were just suggesting if she is working with a budget of 12000 or so, she might want to consider not going with Tiffany's and looking elsewhere to get a larger diamond for the same specs at a lower price.

But yes, BSB, I say 100 percent go for Tiffany, it really does sound that is where your heart is! Very excited for you, ring shopping was really a blast, and the anticipation of the proposal was so fun/exciting. :appl: :appl: :appl:

I understand, DC! :wavey:

OP, walk into the light....the pale blue light...you know it's calling to you!

Thank you both!!! I'm getting so excited!! I contacted Tiffany customer support and a woman is already working with me and bending over backwards to help and answer questions. I know, they should haha, but I love it :)

Lol Smith I think I found a tiff buddy here!! Hehe *hugs*

Ha ha yes! Just promise you'll come back and show us your Soleste...pretty please?

In the meantime, to help you with the wait, you need THIS book. I've got it, and it's fab: http://www.amazon.com/Tiffany-Style-170-Years-Design/dp/081097293X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1384031997&sr=1-1&keywords=Tiffany

If you look at Page 2 of this thread, I've posted quite a few pictures of the book's interior, and in the thread is also some info about Tiffany's heritage. Enjoy! I tried on a soleste a few weeks ago for fun as we were purchasing my SO's wedding band. It was a .66 ct and it was almost 15k. I can't remember the specs but if you go down in color/clarity it will bring down the price. It def has a nice impact with the double halo! I think you definitely gotta try on the T&Co if that's what you have your heart set on! You should be able to contact a sales associate thru the website and they should be able to send you an email with the rings in the company with prices and specs. Just tell them the ct range and price. I just emailed my sales consultant the other day for Novo specs for a friend and she sent me a nice listing. At least, then, you have an idea what is available.

Edit: I see you have already contacted cust. Service. Lol that's what I get for posting too early in the AM. I love my SA, she would bend over backwards for either me or SO. Sometimes the cost doesn't matter much when you have such a great customer service experience :)

Make sure to take pics when you go :)

Sounds good! Well, you followed you heart so that's a good choice. Sounds like your SA is doing her best to provide you with the best Tiffany has for your money. Please come back for updates and pics.

Wow!! Wonder what the specs were! Actually if you guys don't mind, can I get some advice? What of these would be better? I'm new to learning about color and clarity. Would you see a difference from G to H? VVS1 to VVS2? I've heard color is more important, as it adds to the sparkle brilliance and that any flaws within these categories (clarity) wouldn't be visible to the naked eye.

This us what she sent me:
.70, H, VVS2, $10,900
.63, F, VVS1, $11,000
.72, G, VVS1, $11,500
.77, I, IF, $11,600
.80, H, VS1, $11,800
.75, H, IF, $12,500
.75, F, VVS2, 12,500
.77, F, VS1, $12,700

EDIT: I know I is as low as they go.. Should I avoid that? Basically I want to be able to tell my bf what is most important. And what to avoid if necessary

You really can't choose a cushion by specs, especially ones as limited as those. However many they will call in for you to see in person call them in and choose in person.

Hmmm... Me and my bf want me to pick the ring with him but the proposal and timing we want to be a surprise.. This could get tricky lol. So with this I should be looking in person at all of them? Any other criteria I should be considering?

Diamond experts, please tell me if I am wrong here, but I think your clarity characteristics are way too high. Eye clean SI1 is the way to go, especially considering how much overhead you are paying. Those prices are very, very high for the carat weight.

Well that's all the options they have

Will those prices still be within budget for you to get the Soleste?

Yeah. I told her our max was around 12,000. I realize I could go larger somewhere else but with the double halo and my skinny fingers I'm not sure I'd even want to go higher than .7 or .8

Just wanted to clarify that the color grade doesn't affect the sparkle or performance of the diamond so I wouldn't shy away from any of the H's just because they're an H. It is a cushion though so they have a tendency to show more color. Since its a halo you "may" prefer to go with the F if you are sensitive to color.

The clarity grades here are a bit overkill. I wouldn't personally pay the premium for the VVS1 or 2 unless they are a better cut grade than the lower clarity alternatives.

If I were you I would specifically try to see the H and F VS1's in person.

Ooh ok. I misunderstood that part.thank you for clarifying :) yeah from what I've heard I can basically go to the bottom of tiff's clarity grades and still not see a difference myself. Do you think I (as uneducated as I am on diamonds) would see color in an h? Is it just how perceptive a person is? I guess I need to look and see if I'm sensitive and notice color or not. Is that something that stands out in natural light more? Afraid I'll think it looks perfect in store and go outside and see yellow lol

A part of me wonders if I'm thinking too much. If I'd even notice a difference between any of these and I should just let the bf handle it after I explain colors and clarity

I've never tried on diamond rings at Tiffany, only wedding bands, bracelets, that sort of thing, but I can tell you that the lighting makes everything sparkly! I don't know if they will let you see it under different lighting or not. I have heard of people standing next to a window and shading their hand a bit.

I can't tell the difference between an F and an H in a well cut round brilliant, but I can in some cushions. It really depends on several factors, but the cut style and quality are big ones since they influences how light is reflected. With this particular ring, you really need to see it and compare a few. Side by side you might notice a color difference, but individually it probably won't be that obvious. You need to evaluate them and see if the color difference matters to you.

And its Tiffany. They sell nice stuff. Part of working with Tiffany is that it takes some of the guesswork and stress out of the purchase.

Thank you so much chemgirl! I feel more prepared now. And I'll do my best to see a few different ones side-by-side

Thanks! The yellow is pretty but I personally want the more classic style

Get the biggest one................

If that's how you feel I would instruct him to go with the biggest face up, does not necessarily relate the carat size, out of the bunch that looks good the eye with color. And I know that with cushions I prefer squares. That I would say let him know, if you have a preference for rectangular or square cushions. I'm too much of a control person when it comes to diamonds, I would have to pick, lol.

Lol I know what you mean. I think I'm gonna try and see as many as possible with him, then be really specific about what I like

What are the table and depth percentages?

With all else equal, I would go with the .80, H, VS1, $11,800 which has the best balance of color and clarity. My feeling based on stones I have seen is that T&CO is stricter on color than GIA so a T&CO H can very well end up as a G with GIA. That is plenty white.

You need to ask them what they graded the cuts of each diamond as. I would get the largest best cut one.

Ok, I can ask that :) thank you

One more question (sorry!)

How important is cut? I'm fine going down to an H, and from what I've heard clarity with them doesn't really matter cause the lowest they to, the flaws you couldn't see with a naked eye. However I really want it to sparkle like crazy, is that where cut really comes in? Like should I sacrifice even a bit of carat, clarity etc for the best graded cut they have? Would I notice a difference between very good and excellent?

Cut is the single most important factor. An ideal or excellent stone will appear much brighter and larger than a "very good" or poorly cut stone with all other specs being equal.
