My wonderful fiance popped the question at Christmas with a .32 solitaire. He is open to putting the diamond in a new setting (the current one has massive prongs that dwarf my little diamond and I thought a wider band may be nicer too). I was thinking about a trellis setting but am torn... Would a narrow classic band make the diamond look larger?

Congratulations on your engagement!!! :appl:
I think a narrower band does make the stone pop more. I am having a similar dilemma as my band is pretty thick relatively speaking and am thinking of resetting with a narrower band in the hopes it will make my diamond pop more than it currently does. And delicate prongs most certainly help the overall look IMO. Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you decide!

If you want it to look larger, either a bezel or an illusion box head paired with narrower shank would work. A halo mounting is another possibility.

There is a thread of diamonds under 1ct over in the Show Me The Bling forum. It's one of the stickies at the top of the page. You can look through there for ideas.

I agree, a more delicate shank and prongs can help. I also like the idea of a bezel. But for me personally, halos on stones under a .5 look more like cluster rings and dont appeal to me, but that's just a personal preference.

Congratulations on your engagement.

I wore a 0.18 ct diamond solitaire for many years, and I decided to embrace the small diamond look. There are other options for you, though. The solution from two generations ago was the illusion head setting. It definitely makes a modest sized diamond look larger. Here are some photos of my mother's small diamond in an illusion head next to my 0.63 ct stone. (The 0.63 ct was my replacement for my 0.18 ct after about 30 years.)
