Hello,

I have started with square diamond in bizet setting but then had my heart set on a very simple timeless round diamond in tiffany setting. I like relatively simple rings and thought that this one would make the stone look shiny and beautiful unlike bizet setting where good part of the diamond is covered.
I have three round diamonds on hold at JA and waiting for ID images to come. Hoever when I looked at JA 'Tiffany' setting, I realised they are a bit chunky and I got totally confused and overwhelmed when I srarted considering other settings
Now I like coloured stones, pear shape, marquise.. :-)

This is the only diamond ring that I am planning to buy in the near future and wear every day. Although 'tiffany setting' is beautiful I am not sure if I prefer something a bit more interesting and unusual. Or would pear shape halo date too quickly??

I live in UK and ideally would like to buy the diamond and set it at the same place before it is sent to UK so my options now are

1 .one of the 3 round diamonds on hold and setting

2. one of the three diamonds and setting

6. you have another idea (to confuse me even more :-)

My budget is around $5.000 - $5.500

Thank you in advance!

Re: Help please with choosing the setting for my engagement

Ok I may be bias but NO. A pear halo will not fade too quickly!
There has beed a discussion about them going out of style I think I've seen goimg back 10 years. ALSO halso were around in the 40s and whatnot so I wouldn't worry if you like a halo get a halo.

As for a pear- I mean shoot liz taylor had pears and thats just classic elegance. Not common like a simple solitaire. But not as easily dated like a marquise. Also. I think a plain shank halo is more timeless because it still has a solitaire vibe.

And a well made ring never goes out of style. You may be able to place what decade it was purchased- but that doesn't make it dated. Like some art deco rings. I know they were made in that era but doeant mean they aren't fab

Again I am bias.

But I think they are GREAT!

Also my ring was under 4500 usd if I remember correctly
Hvs2 .9 ct pear (8.5x5 5)7.25 ring size.

So with your budget you get a pear thats going to have a LOT of finger coverage. And really elongates.

Hopefully you're luckier than me andy your fingers are smaller. :)

I like the first setting (first link) and option #5 (last link). I don't think halo's will go out of style any time soon. With that budget you should be able to get something very nice, and I'm sure the members here could help you select an amazing stone once you select which style you prefer.

Re: Help please with choosing the setting for my engagement

I actually like a halo or bezel with pears, ovals or marquise. I think that it really emphasis' the shape of the stone and is visually more appealing. I've seen many beautiful fancy shape stones in a simple solitaire but my eye prefers the shape enhanced. I think YOU need to consider what is most appealing to YOU. Which are you more drawn to? I find it helpful to shop around and try on many many different options. Sometimes I'm surprised and something that I didn't think would appeal to me looked the best on my hand. Take your time, try on lots of options, take pictures that you can view at home.

Re: Help please with choosing the setting for my engagement

Thanks very much. That 'pear' ring is very beautiful!
I will go and try some rings, will let you know how I get on. I suppose I used my chance for ID with James Allen now and if I want to get cushion or pear, I will just have to chose them without looking at detailed reports and idealscope?
Do you think that these shapes will look as shiny as the round or not quite. So indecisive!

I am choosing a new kitchen at the moment and don't know what it is going to be high gloss white or red - the same problem! :-)

I guess I would like to be 'different' and never date :-)

Thanks again!
