Help! Regret my Cartier purchase!

Hey everyone, I've been a stalker here for a while and just joined unfortunately in need of some help/advice.

I bought my fiancée a Cartier 1895 pave ring for the engagement and we were shopping around for our wedding rings. She had it down to the Ballerine eternity ring or a similar Kwiat channel ring, with the Cartier perhaps matching slightly better with the mini-bead set diamonds. Unfortunately, she fell out of love with the ring soon after we brought it home, as it was somewhat less than comfortable for her (I'm not sure why, I'm pretty much really frustrated at this point). To top it off, she likes the Kwiat one now and it would have cost less as well.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do? Unforunately, Cartier does not accept returns and I can only get store credit. I suppose if there were a way to connect buyers with sellers it would be pretty easy to try to sell my store credit, I'd be willing to take a hundred or two hit and someone who was going to spend the money anyways could save enough cash for a pretty nice dinner. Otherwise, I'd be stuck selling the ring as second-hand and I'd have to take a much bigger ding for what amounts to a new ring...

Thanks for your help in advance!

If the Cartier one is not comfortable but the Kwiat one is pretty similar, why does she think it would be more comfortable to wear than the one she already has? I'm sorry, but I really think your best option is for her to get used to the ring. It doesn't look like it would be uncomfortable. :?

Ewhat is the return period? I think she should wear it until then and see if she changes her mind.

Wow, Cartier has NO return period at all? Gosh, there are occasions where the girl does not accept agree to the engagement! That is really nuts. We advise people to never buy without a return period.

In this case, she needs to get used to the ring. She picked it out and knew there was no return period.

If she cannot get comfortable with it or enjoy it I would recommend taking the credit. Cartier has gorgeous jewelry and I am sure she can find something else she will enjoy.

Or, you can try and sell the Cartier credit on DB or loupetroop if you want the cash...but you will take a bit of a loss that way.

Yes, the obvious answer is to switch to a different Cartier ring. The 1895 comes without pave, and then you can get her a beautiful diamond wedding band. Kwiat has some beautiful jewelry, but the Cartier brand will be more valuable in the long run.

Missy and DS are spot-on. I'd suggest either exchanging it for a Cartier band that is more comfortable, or just returning it, buying the Kwiat, and keeping the store credit for your anniversary or something. I know it's frustrating to spend money when you weren't planning to for a while yet, but better that than the huge hit you take selling it yourself.

If that's the case, I'd opt for the store credit and have her pick a different Cartier setting with it. There is no guarantee that the Kwait ring will be any more comfortable for her to wear.

Agreed, take the credit and get a different Cartier ring.

Yep, have her pick something else out from Cartier...not get her another ring (somewhere else) and have a store credit. I'm not sure how expensive Cartier rings are, but I am guessing rather pricey. It would be unrealistic for you to buy another ring and shell out more money and be stuck sitting on a store credit or loosing money on trying to sell second hand.

Thanks for all your input... yeah I figured it was a pretty bad situation any way it goes. Yeah Cartier has absolutely no return period, only merchandise credit/exchange. Guess we will see if there is anything better there. Any other ideas for places to sell or offer a $100-200 discount on a Cartier purchase? I saw a few suggestions up above and will check it out...

Feel really dumb, but the salesperson really got us on the oldest trick in the book, telling us all the bridal prices are going up today (the next business day) by at least 10%- the pressure sell. Ugh.

Don't feel badly- it has happened to many of us and no use beating yourself up about it. Use it as a learning experience and if there is one thing I know, when it comes to jewelry many of us have tastes that change/mature over the years and that's OK too. So though this was sorta faster than usual (changing preferences) it happens so try not to be upset about it.
The 2 places you can try and sell your credit (but I still think you're better off using the full amount at Cartier) are:

and
http://loupetroop.com/

Good luck.

In the country where I live, most luxury brands only offer store credit but no refund. I said most as I've yet to buy from all luxury brands, so there might be some I'm unaware of.

Erings are expensive. It's better to sell at a loss now than to get her to pick something she's half hearted about in Cartier and wants another change later down the road. I'm not sure how much her ering is, but if it's a huge budget, selling at a loss is better than store credit since you might need many smaller purchases to utilise that store credit.

Some possible items you might like to get her for Christmas from Cartier in case you're taking the store credit:
Love bracelet
Trinity rolling rings
Santos, Tank, Ballon Bleu :))
