Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help with my e-ring reset. I have a 0.52 carat princess cut solitaire. I am going to get the diamond reset in a halo setting, but I'm torn between getting the diamond set in prongs or bezel set. I worry with the bezel set it will take some of the sparkle away. Anyone have any experience with this? I also don't want the halo to overwhelm my center stone. Anyone have any ideas about the halo "ratio" (for lack of a better term - can you tell I'm new at this? :) ?

Hi! I am not a fan of bezel settings. I don't want to hide diamonds u know? I have seen some and the diamond looks bright, but it's kind of modern for me. I vote for prongs. I think for halos I would not get too big next to the stone, and not too small. I wish I could explain better but I'm tired. :snore: Check these halo settings out - they are for princess stones....

any metal around the diamond will effect the light entering it somewhat, even prongs. With that said i dont think it will have a large enough effect to take a well performing stone and turn it into a poor performing stone.

As for it overwhelming the stone. It depends on the bezel. a tight bezel isnt going to take away or "hide" the stone at all
here is an example of my pears bezel. SUPER tight and thin. I prefer it for shapes that you really want to emphasize

and heres a similar setting with a princess (i think about .7)

with that said. is the princess shape something you really want to bring out? or do you want to soften the shape. I think thats an important question deciding between prings and bezel

I love the princess shape but I'm afraid that the bezel setting might make my center stone look smaller? I also really like the pave halos which I've only ever seen with the prong set center stone. I love the delicacy of the halos but most of the princess cut ones I have seen have the center stone sitting higher than the actual halo. Is it possible to get the center stone to sit as low and as flush with the pong setting as with the bezel?

I'm not a fan of bezel settings...I am in the process of resetting a diamond, which was set in a bezel halo setting. The setting was made beautifully and it was a custom made piece, but i realized that it hides the biggest part of my stone and takes away from its beauty. To give you an idea, when my jeweler took the diamond out of the bezel halo setting, i though it looked so much bigger :o Imagine...even with the halo, my stone looked smaller than when it was loose.
Of course, it depends on the specific kind of bezel setting, but in general, i prefer to show off the stone and not squeeze it inside a setting that...suffocates it :?

hers the same halo in about. The poster says its about .5 ct.

i disagree that halos make it look smaller. I agree thick ones arent attractive. But a well made one can have little effect on the look or light performance :)

I've seen bezels go either way. In many cases I think that it makes the stone look larger, especially with fancy shapes where a bezel helps emphasis the shape of the stone. I also think that it depends on how well cut the diamond is to begin with. With most well cut stones, light will find it's way in, but if the stone is dark to begin with adding a bezel will likely not help. Bezels also protect the delicate corners of a princess cut, making them much less likely to crack or chip, so if you are active and plan on wearing your ring during most activities then a bezel may be a very good option, however, the delicate prongs of a halo may not be. In this case you may consider bezeling the stone and the halo like neilseels. So I think it depends on how you plan to wear the ring and what you hope to accomplish with the setting.

If you are attempting to visually increase the size of the center stone and don't want to bezel then adding a slight airline between the center and halo is an option. Webdiva has one like this and it looks amazing.
