Matatora, God bless you for what you did for that little dog. In his last few montsh of life, he knew what love was from you.

It boggles my mind how people treat animals, especially companion animals like dogs. Who could beat a dog like that? But like my mom says (as she shakes her head), look at what some people do to their own children.

And you know how I feel abut adopted dogs...

My whole family only has adopted dogs (us, my mom, in-laws, etc) and they are just the most wonderful animals...I consider myself lucky to have been brought to them. It is a priviledge to love them.

Personally, I think whoever is caught abusing an animal should have the same thing done to them as they did to the animall. Wouldn''t that be refreshing?

Sometimes I feel even THAT would be too soft a punishment for people who abuse helpless animals. It just makes me sick. Why even GET the dog or cat if you''re just going to neglect or otherwise abuse it? I sometimes watch the vet rescue 911 shows and it makes me happy to see these animals are being rescued, but my blood boils every time I have to see what they were going through up to that point.

V wont let me watch those shows anymore. I call him up in tears and I get sick.

Which for me is odd beucae I am not an emotional person by nature. Plus I always want to send my life savings into the ASPCA. Instead I volunteer at the local shelter when I can and I have done the fostering thing once or twice...I hope to do more of that once I have a house and not an apt. As for the people who commit these acts of violence they often get a fine of less then 1000, usally closer to about 150-350$ and no jail time.

HI:

Family friends have adopted two Greyhounds--both Ex-Racers--from the States and love them dearly, as they have no children these dogs are their "family". Initially both dogs presented challenges--physical injuries and psychologicall issues--but with time and patience they fit well into the environment. She talks of the elder dog "Sam" in such a way, I often have to make a mental note to realize she is talking of her dog!!! Delightful pair of pooches that was adopted into a wonderful and loving family.

cheers--Sharon

I definitely have to admit I can only watch in small doses because those shows bring out murderous tendencies I never thought I had! That''s when I want to just beat those abusing people to a pulp and then let THEM stay in the yard starving for weeks to see how THEY like it. At least the people would have the luxury of understanding what''s happening to them and why...the poor animals don''t understand.

It does do my heart good to hear of people who are fostering animals and volunteering at animal shelters. My cat came from the pound and definitely exhibited signs of abuse. She has adjusted to life as well as she can (she''s still notoriously afraid of everyone)...but these animals as much as any other purebred or expensive animal deserve a happy and love-filled life. Maybe even moreso.

Oh I just LOVE greyhounds! "Harley" would always hang around ... he was a family member''s dog" of my then b-friend .. I loved how he would just curl into a ball and love you... . I watched a news program about those poor beasties. .. Heartbreaking.

Omg, Matatora, that's just a heartbreaking story. I'm so glad you were able to give your dog happiness, love and comfort even if it was just for a few months.

There are so many wonderful animals in the shelters, I wish more people would give them a chance. No dogs, but I've adopted 3 cats and 2 hamsters

Oh, ladies, I can''t watch the rescue shows...I start crying and have an asthma attack. I can''t take it.

I have major issues with dogs...I think they are so special. "Dog" spelled backwards is "God", you know...I think they are a piece of God here on earth, a small part of what''s good and right in the world...until of course, man destroys it, i.e., abused and neglected anmals.

Again- my parents have a greyhound and since I have moved out I miss her greatly...I just got a puppy and am panicking about it but with the greyhound it was never like that, they are just simple, sweet, elegant dogs. It is very sick what they do to them, and they keep them crated for 20 hours a day!!!! very sad!!!
