First time posting, long time of admiring!

My fiance and I got engaged one year ago and are five months away from our wedding. He proposed to me with this beautiful 1.55ct Ideal Cut Hearts and Arrows diamond.

We are looking to re-set this diamond to match my future wedding band. As we've been in the market for wedding bands, I've realized that I want an eternity wedding band, but I want the diamonds to have a prong setting instead of the way the diamonds are set in my engagement ring. Here's my engagement ring and a wedding band I tried on in the store (with .05ct diamonds).

As you can see above, the wedding band outshines my engagement ring band, which is why we now want to reset my center diamond in a setting with a band that matches this pronged wedding band. That way, my engagement ring band and wedding band will match each other in terms of the way the side diamonds are set.

NOW THE QUESTION.....
Do I re-set my 1.55ct diamond on a band with .03ct side diamonds or .05ct side diamonds?
Here they are:

Would my center diamond look bigger if it is set on a smaller band? Which do you think would look better? I will then get the matching wedding band!

My Hearts and Arrows diamond is an Ideal Cut 1.55ct, F, VS2

Thank you!!

Welcome! Your ring is beautiful!

As to size, I guess it depends on whether you want the two rings to be an identical match. If so, go with the .05 like your wedding band.

Would you consider going with the smaller stones in both the ering and wedding band?

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

I would go with .05 pointers! Gorgeous e-ring, by the way! Congrats! :appl:

I think she already owns the e-ring setting. Seems to me this is her actual engagement ring, so I doubt she can change the size of diamonds in her e-ring. Personally, I wouldn't mess with that. It looks very nice the way it is. :appl:

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Yes, I own the engagement ring in all photos, but not for much longer. We are looking to reset my diamond in one of the bottom two bands. I just don't know whether to reset my diamond in a eternity band with .03ct diamonds or .05. :twirl:

I would then get the matching wedding band!

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

I would do the 5 pointers but I guess its personal preference.

Are you getting a spacer to go b/t the two bands? gorgeous! But, they look like the diamonds will rub....

Thanks! That's another reason why we are looking at re-setting my diamond into a band that matches my wedding band. That way, they will fit flush and will not rub. :)

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Another vote for the 5 pointers.

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Actually, would you consider resetting in a plain metal solitaire? I think that would make your e-ring pop the most against the diamond band! The 5 pointers are nice too though.

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

5 pointers but with a spacer!

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

My 2 cents:

I have been trying to decide on the right look to go with my solitaire, from resetting to adding bands. I'm terrible with making decisions b/c I keep changing my mind, as many PS'ers will agree. So on a recent trip to las vegas, i bought a lot of different cz eternity bands and tested a bunch of them out, from u prong, to pave, to bezel sets, to channel sets. And I discovered that my favorite (to my extreme surprise) is a channel set style. I never would have guessed!!! Not in a million years, since I always thought that the channel sets showed too much metal. However, as I wore it on my hand, i preferred it to all the others. I found it was the best way to be sure of what I wanted. Good luck!! Let us know which way you go!

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Just going from your pics I would go w/ the 3 pointers for both bands. Having recently struggled with a similar dilemma, I found that when you have both bands side by side under your center stone, you can "overwhelm" the stone more quickly than you realize. Usually the thicker the set of bands, the smaller your center stone looks so you want your center stone to have plenty of "overhang".

So first look at the dimensions of your center stone. Then look at the width of each band. I found that as I began stacking the bands & saw the mm begin to add up, it became very clear the bands couldn't be as wide as I thought. As a final check to see if I was on the right track, I got some super cheap CZ bands that had the range of widths that I was looking at and that clinched it for me. I hope some of what I went through helps you. What an exciting project for you!!

I think either would be gorgeous! Personally, I am a fan of the more delicate look, so would vote for the 3-pointers. I think that would make your diamond look bigger too. But why not take the suggestion of other PSers and try out the two versions in CZ first, wear them around for a few days, and see what you prefer?

Ditto this, but then I would add 2 diamond bands, one on each side :) That way you still get 2 diamond bands and the contrast against the metal.

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

I agree with boysenberry. I also vote for the 0.3 stones! It really is a personal preference but I like thinner bands, I think it is more delicate and makes the center stone pop more.

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Hi everyone! Thank you for your input. I decided to reset my diamond in a band with 5 pointers. My wedding band will match!

Thanks again!

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Congrats on your reset and thanks for letting us know what you decided to do! Is that a full eternity or partial? Of course, now we'll all be looking forward to the pictures with your wedding band as well - LOL .

I love the look of shared prong eternity bands, but just a caution about wearing the two rings side-by-side. Even though you're getting them made to match, they will still rub & scratch each other. So you'll find that you'll either need to get a spacer to go between them or get them lightly soldered together (ie, just a few dots of solder around the rings) so that they're always in perfect alignment and won't move against one another.
But you don't have to think about that until the time comes ... for now just enjoy your reset and feel free to share more pics with us!! :wavey:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your new setting - the prong setting just makes the center stone shine! Classic and beautiful!!!!

Re: HELP!! Solitaire w/ Diamond Band *E-Ring & W-Band Decisi

Thanks everyone! Yes, the diamonds do go all around the band, adding 1.5 carats. 3.05ctw

BEAUTIFUL!! any shots with your future wedding band?

After seeing pics of the e-ring, I would reiterate everyone else's suggestion about the spacer. If the two rings sit flush, the diamonds can rub and cause damage. There are sellers on Etsy that make the most adorable, itty bitty spacers you've ever seen. If you do a search on PS, I'm sure you'll find the thread.

I'm glad you're happy with the outcome, your ring is lovely!

How beautiful!! Thanks for sharing additional pics. Don't you just love the never ending circle of bling?

I never realized just how often I actually DO see the underside of my finger (as well as how often other people notice the underside of my finger) until I started wearing full eternities. It's kind of funny (& a little distracting) when you're talking to someone and their eyes don't stop following your left hand around  .

What a gorgeous choice for your re-set!! Once you add your wedding band it's going to be crazy (in a very very good way)!

I agree that it is really beautiful - and would love to see pics with the wedding band :wink2:
