Help sourcing Amber

Hi all. My husband really wants an Amber bracelet for a long time now, but his intrest has been renewed since I've been hunting for my sapphire. Firstly not even sure if Amber is a gemstone so sorry if wasting time. I was just wondering where I'd be able to source natural Amber and where might I be able to get it made into a bracelet.

Sure is a gemstone!

Amber is found in the Baltics, and surprisingly in Burma.

As with many specialities like jade, turquoise or coral there is a whole world of collectors and life long learning out there.

Hi Scarlett - can't remember if you've told us where you're located, but if you live in the US, odds are there is an Intergem show fairly near you. There are two amber dealers that come to California shows, so depending upon your location, you probably have them too. They sell finished pieces, as well as simply strung amber nuggets so you could make your own. Definitely worth checking out.

Scarlett I imagine there should be plenty of it in your part of the world (ireland) as amber mostly comes from a European source. I remember I used to see a lot of it around when I studied in the UK, both the real and the fake varieties

That's right peacechick, living in Ireland. There use to be lots of Amber around alright, say 10 or so years ago but hardly see it around now and not in a mans style of bracelet. Usually big rings with a spider in it or something .Will probably need to source online if anyone knows any sites.

Well, I lived there more than 10 years ago so that makes sense! I wonder why the supply dried up? Mysterious... I do love amber. Good luck finding a bracelet-- a lovely "upgrade" for your husband to go with your ring!

Thanks Peacechick. I think Amber isn't as popular as it was so maybe the demand just isn't there anymore.

Amber is definitely a gemstone and I've seen many in Asia. I've not purchased any online and so don't know who to recommend.
