Hi Everyone,
I have been lurking on this forum for ages now. I have been trying to sneakily get my girl her dream stone – and I found it! The problem is that as I wait for it to arrive, I am growing increasingly concerned about the size as it relates to her tiny fingers!
The stone is a 1.5ct round. Everything on the stone is perfect and I sourced it through family connections so I don’t have any doubts in that regard.
The stone is arriving tomorrow, and I am getting increasingly worried that may be TOO BIG. She thinks she is a size 3 finger. I only know of one ring that fits on that finger, and I snuck a quick measure of it and it looks like she may be closer to a 4.
Either way, we are talking about a small finger. I have been googling for days trying to get opinions of diamond size for such a small finger. Most pictures I see are of hands that are proportionately smaller, so while helpful, I still can’t visualize it on her. Her fingers are small but are long and slender (and remarkably beautiful – not just saying that because of who she is ) so I think I big beautiful rock would look great.
I want it to be a surprise so I can’t just ask her. I know she does like big rocks – one time a few years ago I think she was trying on some 1ct + stones and really seemed to like them. But trying something on for 30 seconds is not the same as wearing it forever, and it was so long ago that I don’t recall the exact size. Of course I actually don't know how serious she is when she professes her admiration for big diamonds. She pulls my leg a lot.
The ring is a wholesale deal and a favor – basically I was told that I can put the stone on her finger if I want an idea of the size, but once it is set, I own it.
So my questions:
• Will placing the stone on her finger give a good idea of the size when it is set (I was thinking a small solitaire setting)
• Is there a setting that would be more favorable than a thin solitaire setting?
• Is it just…. Too big? The thought of spending extra for something she will like less makes me feel a bit queasy. I have stressed enough over this for the both of us….it would kill me inside if I knew it stressed her out in any way at all.
Thanks to everyone on this board. I have been spending countless hours lurking and this is a great resource!
