Hi guys, I am new for diamonds and this place, thanks for spend your time to help me out. I want to propose to my gf at march 24th. So I start looking for engagement ring at $3700 price range. Since I am still in university, this what I have so far (top $4000). But still want to get a good stone for her. I have seen some options like:

If I want 3x cuts is these two the biggest I can get in this price range? If I want 3x cut and as big as it can be and set on a yellow gold setting, any surjection about color, clarity and depth %? And for buying it online, between b2cjewels.com and brilliance.com which one is better? Thanks a lot!!!

Also have a question about price. One of my friends is working at a jewelry store, and he might get some discount for buying things. For anyone who is also working in a jewelry store, please tell me is the discount usuelly can be good as buying online? I just dont want to bother my frind. thanks

Well, I wouldn't suggest buying a stone from anywhere that doesn't provide pictures or videos. The best place to buy online IMO would be James Allen, Whiteflash, Good Old Gold or a place like ID Jewelry who will take pictures for you and send videos. Forgot to mention Brian Gavin diamonds. AND - just because a friend recommended it doesn't mean that you have to or even should buy from there. Chances are you will still find a better price online.

I understood what you said. But I would still try to find out more information about which one she'd prefer over the other because Asschers are smaller, deeper and have a completely different facet structure, the step cut, versus the round which is the most brilliant and faces up bigger than any other cut. So again, I'd highly suggest sticking with one yourself or asking her or somehow finding out which she'd prefer.

Example. The round I posted earlier is a .90 ct ideal cut stone and the size is 6.18*6.21*3.82mm versus the .90 asscher which measured out to 5.35*5.10*3.63mm and has more of a shiny reflecting facet structure while the round will provide more fire etc.

I see you point. I will try to find out. Thanks. I have an thought makes me go with asscher more but I dont know I am wrong or not. I think for buying a round sharp is more difficult than asscher, since there are more things need to warry like cut,H&A even its 3x GIA it can still not be a H&A. But for asscher I just need to warry about color, clerity depth%, and cut grade from report.

I have to agree. With rounds, if you get a true H&A stone the rest of the things, like Symmetry, Polish and Cut will all be excellent. So if your budget can handle it, to make it easier for you I'd suggest sticking with an H&A. If not, we can always help find an equally beautiful and spectacular stone. So what's the budget for the round? $3500? The stones I posted from JA those prices are before the 5% discount that they offer to pricescope members.

Oh, ok, so for buying round, how to tell if its H&A or close to H&A? can I tell that from depth%? whats the fair price for an H&A 0.85 H vs2? Sorry about giving too many questions.......I think I am really losed now.....

I did a good search of all the usual vendors who provide pictures, and that's pretty much the best I could do, with a hard upper limit of 3700 and I+ color, SI1+ clarity. Good thing it's going to be a stunner.
