I know I don''t post terribly often over here, but I would love your input

so... I''m one of those girls who in general just doesn''t know how to dress their body, so you can imagine what it might be like going into a bridal salon for me. "um, well, yup, they all look like wedding dresses." and that''s about the extent of my knowledge. well, sort of. I do know that I would love a corset back. Something incredibly sexy about it to me

I''m about a year and a half away from the wedding, so I still have time, but I figured I''d go to try stuff on b/c they say ''oh it''s never too early to look at dresses. I wish I had more/better pictures, but I''d like to hear your brutal opinions about the style/shape of these two

I love the right one on you!! I think its rather flattering!

The Raylia dress! flatters your figure much better than the one on the left (though that one is very pretty too)

Me too. Something that shows off your waist line and your bust line. You look very svelte and elegant in the pic on the right.

The one on the right (Raylia) would be my choice between the two.

I also like the one on the right better. The one on the left is much more A-line and doesn''t show off your great figure as much as the right one which is more fitted through the hips.

I much prefer the one on the left, actually. I think it gives you a lovely shape. The one on the right, for some reason, seemed like the design is forced, if that makes any sense. Some mermaid-style dresses are gorgeous and very flattering, but that one doesn''t flow together. Just my opinion, though, so feel free to ignore it if you disagree.

I like the one on the right better than the left, but I think you should keep looking. One thing you should do is try on one dress of every silhouette and see how you like it. I would have never ended up with a trumpet gown if someone hadn''t made me try it on.

Thank you all for your replies

I do like the Raylia dress for the shape it gives me, and FI is a big fan of my curves, so I think it might be sad to cover them up too much with a poofy or A-line type of gown. I think I will have to go in and just try on a bunch of dresses, it''s just finding the time to go that''s kind of difficult

what do you guys think about the shape of this dress? http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=J1192
(sorry I don''t know how to make it clickable)and just for reference, I''m 5ft 1in on a good day and about 125lbs.

I really like that last dress you put up. Here is the link Maggie #3

Do you know how to measure your waist, hips, and bust? If you are willing to put them up I can tell you what shape your body is, and get an idea of what would work. Since you are petite, it might be better to sick to the narrower skirts. The big skirts can swallow you.

take these as approximations, since I''m not really quite sure I did them right.

waist:32
bust: 38
hips:?

so, for hips, if I measure where the top of my ''hipster'' jeans sit, its a 33
if I measure my biggest ''asset''

then it''s a 41

I don''t feel like I have that ''hourglass'' figure. I''m pretty soft in the middle, and it kind of makes my torso look like a box...

You are technically a pair, but pretty close to an hour glass. However, when I looked at the suggestions made for those shapes on line, I didn't like them for you based on the pictures you showed. I looked at the guidelines for petite, and those seem to be the best suggestions for your body.

Here is a nice one from Real Simple

ETA: Remember these are just guidelines and should serve as a starting place. I ended up personally deviating from them. Get what you thinks looks best on you.

thank you so much LtlFirecracker! (I love your screen name btw- I''m a fourth of july baby

lol to the suggestions- I didn''t really care for some of those shapes. I''ve tried on ''empire'' waist dresses before and they look terrible on me imo. But FI and I are both short (he''s 5ft5in), so I''m not worried about looking ''too short'' next to him

I will keep looking and probably be asking for more opinions in the future. Thank you ladies!

of the two you posted i like the one on the right better. i think you''ll probably look great in any trumpet/fit and flare gown you try on. go have fun and try on some more dresses if you can. you only do it once in your life so you may as well take a look around and see what you like and what works best.

the raylia one is better for you - it shows off your frame beautifully

Theright! I also like that link that Firecracker posted!

I love the one on the right, and the other one you posted (that firecracker fixed the link for...)

Definitely the Raylia design. You have such a nice curve and you want to highlight that in your special day. My suggestion would be to further try on more dresses in a mermaid or trumpet silhouette. You are in the fun part of the wedding now, Enjoy it!!!!

I agree with most everyone on here. The dress on the right is much more flattering to your figure! I always assumed an a-line would be the way to go for me because I''ve never liked having clothing tight on my hips. But whoa, when I tried on a-line dresses, they made my hips look so much wider than they are because of where they hit me at the hip! I think the a-line has the same effect on you. You have a cute figure, and the trumpet really shows it off. If I were you I would try on other mermaid/trumpet dresses that have a smoother transition into the skirt (such as rouching). Have fun!

ditto for the mermaid/trumpet styles! But the Maggie Soltero isn''t a plain-ole A-line b/c it has the asymmetrical lace/satin part in the skirt. Maybe you could find a trumpet w/some flair. :)

The one on the right looks amazing on your figure!!!!

thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

It''s funny that so many people liked the Raylia dress- it was my favorite out of the two as well. I definitely thought it would be just the opposite though. Being 5ft 1in put it in my head that a dropped waist/trumpet/or mermaid style just wouldn''t flatter me at all. I think it just goes to show that I will definitely have to try on a lot more dresses than what I did- and in many more styles, just to be safe

I''m actually in the minority who prefers the dress on the left. As another shortie (I''m 5''1" too!) I''ve looked at the recommendations for petite people. Looking at your pictures I think you would look stunning in a sheath gown. It will accentuate your curves but won''t overwhelm your body. Of course, I have a bit too much of a pudge in the middle to work a sheath gown, but I think it would be a nice look on you.

austen... shh, it''s a secret
2.gif
but what you don''t notice in the pictures is that I''m pretty stocky, and pudgy. Form fitting, well, let''s just say it usually doesn''t work on me and I''m sure it offends some people when I wear it. I went from a size 10 to a size 5 though, and I have over a year still to go, so who knows? maybe I''ll fall in love with a dress I wouldn''t have expected to.

I go back the second week of march... wish me luck!

Congratulations on your weight loss, Kas_Baby! But both dresses you tried on definitely are keeping your secret because you look very fit and trim in both. Have fun at your next appointment!

I vote for the one on the right! It looks beautiful, though I do think you can wear many different styles with your figure. Also, maybe a little bit of a sweetheart alteration to it might make it even prettier! Good luck!

I prefer the first one, mostly because I don''t care for trumpet or mermaid style dresses. It''s just a personal preference. You look great in both, but I agree with others, I would keep looking.
