Hello,

My husband and I are upgrading my engagement ring for our anniversary. I have totally fallen in love with asscher cut diamonds, but I am very quickly coming to understand how difficult it is to find a well cut one. I have a couple of questions and I was hoping someone with more experience than me could help.

Firstly, what does a badly cut asscher look like and does it look ugly to the untrained eye? I ask this because, for me from all the ones I have seen, as long as they are nice and white (personal preference) and the windmills meet in the middle I find them beautiful. So I am wondering if, even if it is not cut well to someone who knows what they are talking about, are there also aspects that an untrained eye will recognise as a bad cut?

I have found a diamond that I like the look of but have not seen it in person. On the video I can see one small black dot in one of the windmills (top right). It is graded VS1 by igi. Is it likely that this will not be visable to the naked eye?

Any thoughts on this diamond based on the photo would be hugely appreciated (the photo is a still I grabbed of the rotating video).

The specs are:

carrat: 3.77
colour: E
Clarity: VS1
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Measurements: 8.82x8.60x5.59mm
L/W Ratio: 1.03
Table: 65%, Depth 65%
