Hi:

I have a delightful cab amethyst ring (vintage--Georg Jensen), that although its been in my posession these last 11 yrs, it was enjoyed by another for decades before I purchased it in Copenhagen at the studio there. Anyway the top of the stone has lost its lustre/looks dull and I wondered what might be done to improve its appearance. Would polishing help? A coat of clear of something perhaps?

cheers

Sharon

Hopefully somebody knowledgeable will pipe up soon, but meanwhile--POST A PICTURE!!!!! Sounds gorgeous.

Cabs are easily repolished on the top - it should be easy enough to find a jeweler for the job

The operation should not leave any mark on the setting (the portion of the stone next to the bezel edge is not touched), esp. if you mention how much this means to you upfront...

Sharon,

The stone is just worn and needs repolishing. It should be carefully removed from the setting, polished and re-set. Without a photo or some indication of how it's set and any damage to the stone, there's no way to evaluate how difficult the job might be. Polishing just the top of stones is seldom satisfactory. It's better to renew the entire surface so any deep scratches are eliminated. I do this work all the time and you should be able to find someone locally to do it.

Hi: I'd post a pic if I had a digital camera and a clue (one is easy to buy, while the other....

Thanks for all the suggestions on returning my 'baby' to its former beauty!
