Hi guys,

I put a deposit on a diamond yesterday and now I am second guessing myself. I had been originally looking for a 1.5 carat G/H round solitaire but for my budget it looked like I was going to get an I or J. Yesterday I found a 1.39 carat F SI2 with only twinning wisps that I could not see with the naked eye, it is also VG cut, symmetry and polish and GIA certified. I was really excited I was able to get a F, but was concerned with the VG cut and was reassured by the jeweler that the difference between VG and EX is minimal and would jump my price up a lot. Today I am double thinking about the price, which is $7400, and the cut. Is that a good price for this diamond? Thanks so much for any help! I really need it.

Can you provide the GIA report number?

No sorry, I didn''t know to write that down.

Call the jeweler and ask for it.

Or ask the jeweller for this basic info which will be on the grading report;

depth%
table%
crown and pavilion angles
girdle thickness
diameter in MM
polish and symmetry grades
star and lower girdle facet percentages.
any remarks in the comments section.

Some GIA VG cut can be good stones but it is important to evaluate each carefully on its own desirable visual and physical properties.

Ok so here is the GIA report number: 2115023419. The jeweler has also lowered the price to $7225. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Also of note I really wanted a 1.5 carat G/H SI1 with no inclusions seen by the naked eye for a budget of $8000 total. I seemed to be difficult to get that and then I saw this F and I didn''t think I could get a good F like this. Thanks guys.

You think it''s a good price too? Thanks so much for your help!

Price is good, slightly higher than online price, which is expected for brick store.

Size wise, because of the proportion, this stone has almost the same diameter as a well cut 1.5c stone. So it is a nice one.

It is a 60/60 type of cut with long lowwr girdle facets, so it will probably be a very bright white diamond! You could of course do better and find a more traditional balanced cut, and online it would probably cost what you paid or less. But this sounds like it is a decent price and a nice diamond. I think you should try to negotiate more since seems ready to do it. Maybe offer $6800 and see what happens. He won''t let a sale slide.

And although I am a cut nut, I suspect that you jeweler is right about there being a small difference between vg and ex, especially to the average diamond consumer.
