Help with Diamond Solitaire Ring

Hi

Hope someone can help me with this - I have diamond ring bought in 1999 for a cost of £5200 - the NRV value at the time apparently was £8000 which I assume means the value to insure it for - it was described as follows:

Central old brilliant diamond (dim 8.15 x 8.18 x 4.05mm) at a stated weight of 1.68CT - assessed as follows - I/J colour and clarity VS2 - the rest of the description is about the mounting which is 8 claw and 18ct yellow and white gold

I have looked on multiple sites but find it really difficult to understand all this means - I want to sell but dont know how much it would be worth, how do I get a current valuation ie: would it have gone up in price over the last 7 years or down, if i take in some where how will I get an accurate assessment of value

I have other questions - is the shape of the diamond correct, if I kept the diamond and forgot the mount - has anyone got a suggestion of another design it could be made into other than an engagement ring -

you will only be able to sell it for what others may be willing to pay at the time and no amount of valuation will change that. that said, prices do change over the years and if you want to know what your diamond may be ''worth'' today, you will need to take it to an INDEPENDENT appraiser. do not take it to someone who buys or sells jewelry.

without being able to see the diamond it is very hard to tell much about it.
there are thousands of setting options available. what style are you interested in?

As you can see i know little about diamonds just that it is beautifull - I have copied the info I was given with the ring when I purchased - how do i find an independent assessor without going into a jewellry shop - I guess I am fishing to find out is the diamond any good and is it going to have a value if I sell appreciating it is only worth what someone will pay - I bought as an engagement ring and never gave so useless now so want to sell or make into another piece of jewellry so was looking for ideas
